Journal Captain Splendid's Journal: Ah yes 17

Bolding is mine:

While it's fair to blame the Bush administration for leaving the MMS a shambles, acknowledging that the service was gutted doesn't spare Obama. One of the core functions of the Obama administration from the beginning should have been identifying critical nodes of governance that Bush and his cronies had essentially destroyed, and capabilities involving mineral extraction should have been the first place that they looked. It's not as if mineral extraction was a small sideshow in the Bush administration's effort to destroy government oversight capability; it was the main feature. From all indications, the Obama administration failed to note this or to do anything productive about it until too late.

This is truly a 3rd Bush term, right down to the incompetence and indifference.

  • But even worse is being Bush while claiming he's not.. With every election cycle I say we can't do worse than the previous, and every time since 1964 I have been proven wrong. I remember how the they made fun of Bush Sr. for being a wimp, but clearly this guys takes the cake. I'm pretty sure this is all just throwing the election back to their tag team partner, the republicans.. or they're prepping Hillary's place in the sun. It's how they keep the power..

Well, even Reagan was better than Carter, and Reagan was incredibly bad for working people. I never thought I'd see a worse President than Carter, but Bush proved me wrong. Now I pray I'll never see a worse President than Bush. Hell, Nixon was bad, but he did a few good things, like signing the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act.

And Clinton was a good President, Ruby Ridge and Waco notwi

I dunno. I'm starting to get the feeling that Nixon might have been one of the few good Presidents of the last few decades. Man was sneaky as fuck, but he was a pragmatist and didn't seem to give a damn about ideology.

    • Fucking-A! I wish I has some mod points for you, Squiggle, becaue you are spot-on.

Intelligent discourse concerning Israel is nearly impossible, because any criticism of its behaviour is immediately labelled "anti-Semetic".

    • As I've said before: considering the Jews whine about all the injustices heaped upon them (and there are many), it's funny how they have no qualms about doing the same to others.

  • You can't just walk in and fire every single bureaucracy in the executive, and redo them all.

That's just simply expecting too much out of Obama. He's not a (to use someone else's terms) "a magic negro".

  • Your blog copypasta is absurdly myopic.

If anyone thinks that Congress in unproductive now, imagine if the GOP had a narrative of a Chavez or Morales-style demagogue firing every employee of the MMS and reneging every permit, lease, and exception granted during the Bush years.

It's not even clear that such a thing is legally possible. On a related note, there are 77 key appointments being blocked by Senate Republicans. That they are okay with sabotaging the country for future campaign talking points should di
