Make a standard well designed battery spec. open it. Then, have China make them like crazy... maybe attempt to make quality ones yourself to compete as the premium reliable brand. If you can.

Go with 48V where you can and make it electrically safe as possible so everybody doesn't fear the things.

This will allow used, repair, and create an aftermarket ... a market solving the most difficult aspects of EVs: heavily proprietary with huge lock-in and the fear of electricity.

An affordable car is a USED car. period. Sure batteries wear out. but ICE cars do too and have a ton of maintenance cost and risk... it's a gamble and way more random than an EV.

Oh, yes, that does mean they can't make money on the tons of repair.. so maybe affordable is impossible because they fool people into thinking they are buying an affordable car when really they are being scammed into years of hidden random costs which if they were upfront would make ICE unaffordable...

BS. The USA outsources it's pollution to China as does everybody who externalizes their problems to those who'll stoop the lowest! You can take measures to police how your suppliers behave and your government can do its part as well. Sure, you will pay more money to save CO2, save local jobs, etc. You want people to pay more so you can keep your job? yes... but not to keep other people's jobs? yes.

CHILDISH: But he does it! So I can do it too! (it being anything at all.) It's the flaw of our primate desire for equity being used against us.

WTF is this productivity religion everybody is still in awe of? You masses of workers: productivity is the idol of the owners and it's goal is to eliminate your salary! Stop licking the boots of those who rob you of your salary! THINK.

We do not need constant productivity gains we need to stop salary robbery. The productivity gains never go to the workers, duh... even if you have a co-op and the workers are the owners, those gains in productivity means less jobs are required for greater output. Tech has been shoving out humans since the industrial revolution and career shifting can only go on so long to compensate; same with outsourcing. The futurism of the past where people work 30 hours per week by 2000 due to science went the other direction so to believe the same optimistic outcomes is foolish.

We need to cap hours to 20 within this generation which will double the workers for a "full time" job (which i've never had, all were 45; minimum on the clock plus email/phone, implied homework etc.) This will still not provide enough jobs... most your jobs out there are non-essential and doing pointless work is most today's economy and it's a huge sustainability problem we are just starting to see.

1) cars have a weight problem. Shipping is relatively negligible which is why it's the cheapest way to send massive amounts of heavy things and rivers are still a big factor in economies. Battery tech not practical for cars can be used in boats... especially massive boats that just keep getting bigger to save money... they can afford to get a little bigger or give up a little space like the older smaller ships already do. Don't be fooled thinking they can't stay in business if government forces them to forfeit a little profit which they managed just fine with in the past before they squeezed blood from stone cutting every corner possible.

2) modular battery packs means specific batteries are not relevant long term because tech can easily be changed and fuel cells are also equally possible. Even generators... trains have been electric for generations for their superiority and it's the generator that runs on gas. Failed and obsolete tech can be swapped out easily making this ship is low risk.

3) They don't even have airfoils on this ship! They expect to save up to 30% using airfoils on ocean travel: https://www.bbc.com/news/techn....
