Amazon To Develop Air Cargo Facility at Newark Liberty Airport (bloomberg.com) 13
Amazon struck an agreement with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey to develop an air-cargo facility at Newark Liberty International Airport. From a report: Amazon Gobal Air, the company's cargo airline, plans to spend $125 million to transform two existing buildings at the airport, according to a Port Authority news release. The agency will receive $157 million in rent over a 20-year lease and an upfront payment of $150 million. The lease is expected to take effect later this year, the Port Authority said.

I suspect Amazon already uses Newark Airport for flights, the issu is transporting the freight off the airfield to a warehouse elsewhere in north Jersey.
As I read the summary, they are taking over currently empty buildings, not building.

The last thing EWR needs is more runways. That airspace is already too crowded. I think the other poster was correct, that there won't be much of a change in the number of flights in and out of there, just how much already-boxed cargo gets trucked in from their other fulfillment centers in NJ.

Newark has been the best--cleanest, efficient, and on-time airport in the NYC area. Maybe it's not tough to beat the mess that is JFK or LGA but I've always had a good experience with Newark and rarely with the other two. I just hope Amazon doesn't ruin Newark.

That's setting a very low bar. PHL is an extra half-hour drive from where I live in central Jersey, but if I'm not flying United through the almost-good Terminal C, PHL is easier all around. We'll see what happens when the new Terminal A opens.
