Journal shanen's Journal: WikiLeaks has Trump's tax returns! 25

Just joking. This is only a thought experiment. Had this been an actual emergency, you would have seen it on Twitter already. Notwithstanding...

What if WikiLeaks released the plausible, highly embarrassing, but possibly fake tax returns of Donald J Trump?

(1) Trump would still refuse to release his tax returns?

(2) Trump would release his tax returns and he would be helped by the resulting cloud of confusion.

(3) Trump would be hurt by the spotlight.

(4) Cowboy Neal already has the results of the audit!

Just a thought experiment, but remembering how they handled Dan Rather and how WikiLeaks works, I suspect Assange is already sitting on the Donald's tax returns...

WikiLeaks has Trump's tax returns!

  • Surely, you jest. Nothing that has hurt any other human being in the history of ... possibly ever ... has made a difference to his campaign. If his taxes showed that he was personally sending money directly to Putin in 2012 and was now getting money back straight from Putin in 2016 that wouldn't hurt him.

Okay, how about if the IRS "saved" him by confirming that they were fakes? Surely being helped by the IRS would smudge his reputation with some of his supporters?

The thought experiment was triggered by a recent book I read about WikiLeaks, but if you think about how many people must have seen his tax returns... None of them managed to sneak a few smartphone shots? There must be some really juicy bits in there.

You know if they made him look good, Trump would release them in a New York minute.

He has known for some time how to surround himself with people who believe in his lines. He is a con man the likes of which few have ever reached. For one of his staffers (business, political, or otherwise) to expose his taxes would be worse than them defecating in their own front yards. They'd probably never work again, anywhere.

I don't dispute that notion, unless he is for some reason saving those for this October Surprise.

        • Again, we seem mostly in agreement, though I think Trump might be stalling conditionally, even if there is nothing significant in his tax returns (and as you noted, even glaring problems wouldn't matter to his faithful fanatics). If he is sure he is going to lose, then there is no reason to release the tax returns, and if he is sure he is going to win, then again there is no reason to release them. The only case where he would need to seriously consider releasing them is in the case where they could help hi

Drumpf benefits from two groups of fanatics in this election, one of his own creation and the other of the democrat's creation. Sure, he has a group of crazies that actually latch on to his incoherent and hateful message. However he also benefits from the fact that nothing agitates a conservative like the idea of a Clinton in the white house. He honestly has a group of people who believe that electing him is the only way to prevent the end of days, they would vote for Charles Manson to prevent a Preside

            • nothing agitates a conservative like the idea of a Clinton in the white house.

Absolute nonsense. The Clintons (and Carter, and the party itself) depend on "conservatives" to tilt the vote in their favor. The entangled alliance and quid pro quo between "liberals" and "conservatives" in the democratic party is famous for keeping so-called "liberal" policy off the table. The entire political spectrum of the United States is contained within the democratic party, and it leans right wing despite the noisy few. T

                Bull. Shit.

There is no shortage of conservatives who can hardly survive more than 30 feet from a defibrillator when the word Clinton comes out of someone else's mouth. The rest of them can hardly let the word come out of someone else's mouth before they are already jumping at the opportunity to tell that other person how much they hate anything associated with the name Clinton.

the democratic party is famous for keeping so-called "liberal" policy off the table.

Is that your accidental statement of fact for the week? Liberalism is indeed dead in this country. Unless our country fract

                • Jeeze, you live in a tabloid bubble, no different than the people you "oppose", every bit as fanatical, repeating their every word...

Believe it or not, the nomination is based on who gets the most votes - not the person who gets the loudest votes.

... but I am happy to see that you agree campaign financing is a bullshit issue.

Unless our country fractures into 2 (or more) separate independent countries...

Yeah, more borders and checkpoints, that's what we need... Ever the bureaucrat you are...

                • You're just feeding a troll. You aren't going to get any rational discussion out of it, but the noise will obscure any significant topics that might be discussed.

If I were Captain Kirk, I would tell Nomad to do a "repair operation" on Slashdot. Have you seen my suggestion about how to help the trolls discredit and obscure themselves?

                  • As I've mentioned - here and elsewhere - he does make a factual statement about once a week. Had I not fed him, we might have missed that statement. Not that it was a revelation or anything, but it was factual.
                    • And as I mentioned, you're overwhelmed by media trivia. One of the reasons Clinton (both) won the nom is that they appeal to the conservatives, they can "work together". Your assertions to the contrary are cartoon caricatures of something you read in the tabloids.

I sort of agree with you, but it's only an accident from the troll's perspective and I have other ways to seek serendipitous stimulation. Any other way.

At this point my only interest is... Well, actually I can't think of a point of interest. Once I have recognized a waste of time, my only interest is in reducing the waste. I certainly don't expect a troll to value its own time any more than I would expect a spammer to value the vast amounts of other people's time he wastes.

Therefore, I'd prefer you not feed

Yes, you like to pretend they participate in your sexual fantasies, you little perv. This is why you like when I show up instead of subscribing and filtering.

I will grant your supremacy in actual trolling, even if you are rather banal and extremely puerile, I still bow to you. But you should learn how to be a happy trol [slashdot.org]. You'll attract many more flies to your steaming heap.

                    • they appeal to the conservatives, they can "work together". Your assertions to the contrary

I have never accused the Clintons of being actual liberals. You really ought to try reading my comments some time. I gave you credit for your one factual statement of the week already (which as usual appears to have come from you by accident), but that doesn't mean you need to continue spewing out random bullshit in its wake.

That said, it is still official GOP part policy to hate the Clintons at every chance. The main conservatives who find them appealing are the ones from the democratic party (whic

                    • Your attempts to offend and make up things I never said fall flat. I'm not spewing out any bullshit. The GOP does not hate Clinton, "officially" or otherwise. You just choose to believe that their political showmanship is for real because it fits your media driven narrative. Hence, like our host, you live in denial, and project.

                  • As previously mentioned:

[Finally managed to find your comment under the trollage...]

Basically agree with you on the tax returns. My reservation hinges on the dynamic between Trump and that diabolical woman who is pulling his strings now. (The shadowy campaign manager whose name I can't remember. Another puppet-master of the shadows, like Karl Rove and Roger Ailes. You sort of have to give them credit for not running for office in their own names, eh? They know the bright spotlight would reduce them to ashes.) What Trump thinks doe
