Parting with the A1200

Wednesday May 14, @11:41AM
Amiga
The time has finally come for me to part ways with my beloved Amiga. The reality is, as much as I like tot hink that I will "do something" with it "one of these days," I'm simply not. So, listed below is it and all of its acoutrements. I'm offering to dotters first, then I'll likely try Craigslist for a local buyer before trying to eBay it (the price would likely go up with each increase in market size, too). To all ya'all I'd part ways for ~$350 or perhaps for a trade depending on what it is. Shipping, BTW, will likely suck. Finally, since I'm one of the <3% of dotters who uses Internet Exploder, I've discovered in Preview mode that the <OL> and <UL> tags aren't rending the bullet or numbers. Hopefully that's just me, but if it is difficult to read for you please let me know.

Star Wars Episode I Memorabilia

  • Episode I Collector's Edition VHS
    1. Widescreen Edition VHS - Get it now and insure that your childhood will NOT be ruined if Lucas go back and, "makes it better."
    2. Making of Booklet - Better understand the dark, twisted minds that birthed Jar-Jar
    3. 5 whole frames of real life film (showing Waddo hovering)- Show the kids and watch their cute incomprehension at the entire concept of "film"
    4. The Box in which it came[3] - By opening the box already, I've saved you the dilemma of whether you should. Thank me with money.
  • Large Collector's Sebulba Drinking cup - A Pepsi creation, back when they actively ran KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell. It has a massive plastic Sebulba perched atop the 32 odd oz container. Impress the ladies with the long, wide straw!
  • Sebulba Windup - Watch him slowly traipse across the desk with his hands! Literally minutes of entertainment!
  • Sebulba's Racer Dangler - A tiny model of the racer attached by wire to a suction cup, sort of like hanging a crystal in the window only with nerdy effects instead of rainbows.
  • An authentic Pepsi can in Star Wars Episode I livery - Truly a remarkable piece. It has never been opened yet IT IS EMPTY! Truly! The only explanation I can think of is that the Miticlorians got thirsty. My wife thinks it simply leaked out over time, but since you can't actually see an opening and the poptab is still closed I'm sticking with the Mitichlorian explanation. If Lucas can pull it out of his arse with a straight face, why can't I?
  • The Notes:

[1] - RAM is now extremely cheap, but back in the day this little 8MB sucker cost $300! I don't know what the limits are, but if you have more RAM lying around you could possibly try throwing it in.

[2] - The Amiga A1200 is in horrible condition, but it is there. None of the boxes are in especially great condition, but they are, nonetheless, original.

[3] - I have tested a grand total of 0 of these disks. They are original, ie, ~15 years old, so consider yourself disclaimed!

A Slashdot Skewed View of the IntarWeb

Linux Business
So over on woot they are having a "wootoff" today. I looked through some of the blog entries, particularly for a refurbed Acer tower. The system's an Athlon64 with a 1GB of RAM, 160GB, HD and comes with Vista. Aside from the normal crap in such threads, the majority call it a bad deal because Vista performs so horribly on only a Gig. Maybe I missed it, but there was a grand total of 1 (one) comment which mentioned Linux. If it was the /. crowd, most of the on-topic comments would relate to which version of Linux as opposed to simply that Ubuntu would run great on it.

Just interesting how I had expected the rest of the web to reflect Slashdot's predilictions simply because that's what I read most;-)

YAIMR (Yet Another Iron Man Review)

Anime
Updated;-)

So I took my old, bitter self and the family to Ironman last night. I was pleasantly surprised. The previews left me with the impression that I would be gnashing my teeth over the leaps required for willing suspension of disbelief; but they grealty overstated things. In context Ironman does certainly kick a lot of tuckus, but he is not as invulnerable as the previews would have you think. The special effects were seemless enough that I don't remember thinking about them even once, though my wife noticed some sloppy CG on Tony Stark's shirt;-)

I think the actors did very well, and that the undertone was actually quite positive. No doubt Jeremiah Cornelius will disagree, but I think the theme was moving from a life of flippant shallowness to living for a purpose beyond oneself. Done via much cliche, but done nonetheless.

[TT] Too harsh?

Co-worker: I think today is May 1st.
Me: Yeah, I think it just may be...
Co-worker [looking at me like I'm a mucking foron]: That's what I just said.
Me: Yep [dies laughing inside]
