Journal Shadow Wrought's Journal: Holy Hell I got Mod Points! 14

The last time I had mod points was during the 2004 presidential campaign. I waded into a politic thread and modded the jabs, left and right, and that actually made me laugh as funny. Haven't seen a mod point since.

Until today. So if anyone sees anything that could use some help, lemme know. I got 5 of 'em.

Holy Hell I got Mod Points!

  • I reverse mod-bombed someone (modded up 5 consecutive posts) in 2005 and I have been in the mod point timeout corner ever since. My level of give-a-damn about this site is near zero so it doesn't upset me so much.

    • I do not believe in the existence of mod points.

      Yeah, me either.

I don't know what I did, but there was a period of a month or so last year where I was getting 15 mod points every few days ... some days back-to-back. Occasionally, I'd spend 15, figured I've done my duty for the day, only to find that I STILL had 15.

I used them as fairly as I could, kept quiet about it because if it was a bug, who was I to complain after so many "dry" years, and was a bit relieved - but also disappointed - when they finally stopped.

Well then it wouldn't be slashdot anymore, would it? :)
          • Excellent point ...

But it's like the ability to append to an initial comment within "X" number of minutes to help avoid flame wars - simple enough to implement (and geeklog does it), useful, but they waste time on "oh shiny ..." instead.

    • BTW, your post is depressing. I'm in the same situation, and as I mentioned below, I had a "conversation" with taco about it. He told me "it might be a week, it might be a year".

      Six years? Sheesh.

In the past I understand that he was adamant that there was no such blacklisting. So much for that.

The most humorous part of the whole thing is that I logged in one morning and there was a small box on the front page that allowed me to opt out of seeing all of the advertisements, because I am a "valued contributor" or some such nonsense. So, I can opt out of adverts but I cannot be trusted with mod points. I don't

  • Is what I just saw. I was given a whole 5 points earlier this week, of which I used one (someone said something funny somewhere, damned if I remember now who or where) and the front page told me they would expire on the 23rd. Then on the 22nd I see that I again have 5 points; two of which I've handed out to insightful comments so far.

Odd that I keep getting these dinky batches. I know some time ago (over a year ago) I had 10 points at a time a few times. Not once have I ever had 15 at once - though I
  • Same thing happened to me. I was up to getting 15 points, and then I think I modded someone up that the mod police didn't like, and I haven't seen them since. I even got into a big argument with taco about it. He said "you're not being punished, you just won't get any more mod points". Huh?

I agree with the above. My level of caring about this site has definitely tanked since then. :^\

  • I haven't had modpoints since someone said in a thread that if someone questioned the mods taking away mod points from people in another thread, that person's would also be taken away. I didn't believe it, and posted something like, what's this about mod points being taken away? And foop! No more modpoints since then. Must have been in 2003 or 2004, because I started the artifex2004 account later to have some again :)

And I still have had the eternally excellent karma, I'm a top user they allow to disable ad
