Journal Ethelred Unraed's Journal: In order to improve this place... 32

eno2001 née T4D notes that the Slashdot JE Circle is dying (I knew he was T4D, but I had no idea he was Netcraft).

So I have diagnosed the problem: lack of stimulating discourse. However, luckily I have come up with a remedy, which I am sure will dramatically improve the level of rhetoric here on Slashdot and be a shining example for generations to come.

In the future, whenever someone notes their disagreement with what I have to say, I will simply respond with "SILENCE!"

Go on, try it!

  • Gesundheit? ;P How's that for stimulating discourse?
  • Actually, it's having that second child that really kills your participation in on-line discourse. Your free time goes *poof*.

The third child is even worse, since you and your SO have to switch from man-to-man coverage to a zone defense.

With the fourth child, it's like you're on the wrong side of a power play, and they just pulled the goalie to up the pressure.
  • Funny, but there seems to be quite a bit of stimulating discourse over here [slashdot.org] (please note than an IQ of 37 [slashdot.org] may be required to find the discourse stimulating).
  • The zoo is many things, much of it driven by the software of it: it is a semi-closed community (i.e. you can't get to the zoo via any big RSS collator such as Technorati, so you must know /., intuit that there's a journal function, find Amigos or get a link) and limits the user-supplied input provided (Amigos, no pictures, etc.). It was designed this way as a semi-blog.

For one thing this always means it will be niche. For another, it means it isn't (generally) a vehicle OUT (and back IN. Of course one c

So I'd be sitting there with girl post-coital like.

She'd say, "What are you thinking about?"

        "Hmmn? Oh, nothing?"

Curious, "No really. What?" And she'd get up on one elbow. "I want to know."

I'd look at her, and not being a moron I'd say, "You. I'm thinking about how much I love you like so much and want to put like tons of babies in you. C'mere sugar!"

"Asshole!" and she'd hit me in the arm, put on some underroos and go out an
        • "Asshole!" and she'd hit me in the arm, put on some underroos and go out and watch TV.

Okay, so you're post-coital and piss her off, then she puts on Underroos? Aren't those for like, 8 year olds?

          • Some girls have taken that regressive childhood thing (old retro t-shirts, schoolgirl clothing) to new levels. The Thong was replaced by the Boy Short, which in part (if I remember correctly) came from Cameron Diaz dancing around in Underroos in the first Charlie's Angels.

Next year they'll be on, who knows, Patton style directors' pants and clingwrap. Just makes me glad to be a man and stuck with boring conservative fashion.

What we need is a good political flame fest to get everyone's juices flowing.

You know the kind where if you haven't foed 3 people and had at least 3 people foe you by the end of the day, you just weren't trying hard enough.

So I'll start: all you conservative, neo-con, GOPers are stupid, mouthbreathing, warmongering, criminal, corprate, facist, poo-poo, doody-head, meanies!

Yep, we are. But in a few weeks we'll control the Supreme Court and there ain't a damn thing you Pinko Whining Child Killing Commie Loving God Hating Liberals can do about it.

  • are the people who use the circle jerk to propegate close minded thinking under the 'guise' of 'being intelligent' or 'open thinking.' Just for an example we've got a foe of mine saying that littlebrowniebaker.com is somehow the fault of the 'girl scouts of america' for not being intelligent enough to register all 20 trillion possible 3 word combinations that are some how related to the girl scouts of america...

to what end? all it does is make her look close minded and stupid. someone made a hijack site p

Thats a stupid idea, dont do it.
  • Tends to be mnore effective, though less imperial. Mayhaps once your plans of conquest achieve fruition you can mandate better discussions in JEs?
  • In the future, whenever someone notes their disagreement with what I have to say, I will simply respond with "SILENCE!"

I find "shut up your pie hole" to be much more effective.

A guy I work with will get himself into a corner and decide to end the verbal thread with "Shut up... THAT'S why!"

Always good for a chuckle. :)
  • Things have gotten busier for a number of us. RW has been spending more time with AL (Aquainted Lady), bethanie has the new one who is becoming more mobile (and a bit of a challenge), beetlezueToo now has wdb and a new married life to adjust to (though that hasn't stopped him from posting alot) Sam has two new jobs, solemndragon and blinder have each other . . . just to name a few.

Currently there doesn't happen to be a big political issue that everyone can put their 2 cents in (american or euro, you choose

  • no offense to anyone in particular. but there are too many of us. part of what made this fun for me and drew me in was the intimate the circle had. it was easier to get a feel for things because there were just a few people were providing a bulk of the content. it gave a central point of reference. now there are lots of people all creating a little content. it's tougher to have a singular frame of reference. i hang around anyway. for now at least.
