Journal: So you say Lumia will fail

Journal by 21mhz

This entry exists for an AC who can revisit it six months from now and gloat at the failure of Nokia Lumia, which will not be able to significantly improve the current-ish 2% market share figure for Windows Phone, while Android devices have 50%.

In an ironic coincidence, a story made Slashdot today confirming that Chrome reliably beats Internet Explorer in the number of users, but only on weekends. Remember some three years ago, when IE was the king and Chrome was still in the statistical noise of early adopters, despite being available for many months.

Journal: Single config file format?

Journal by 21mhz

Reading the changelog for Bogofilter, a spam filtering tool, I spotted a note that, I think, should give a lesson to all XML unbelievers out there:

* The configuration file parser is stricter and more correct.

How long, I ask you, will the wheel get reinvented again and again? How many more incompatible, half-buggy, unsuitable for any off-the-shelf tools (if you don't count tedious and error-prone regex hacks in Perl), configuration formats we need? Why can't we just settle on XML, whatever its superficial flaws could be?

When some people discover the truth, they just can't understand why everybody isn't eager to hear it.
