A few weeks ago, we had a major storm that knocked out the power for a good part of the city. Most places were closed, and one of the few that were open had a big "Cash-Only" sign on it.

I've learned to be paranoid about saving, even before Windows. Once, in the mid 80s when I was still a newbie, I was working on a program, typing like crazy. I hadn't saving for hours and the network connection went down. If you heard a loud scream about that time, it was probably me. Ever since, I've never typed for too long without saving.
There's one hill, near my house, where I don't know if I can get up it until it's too late. Basically, if there's nobody else on it, I'll make it. If there's someone ahead of me and they don't make it, I've lost my momentum, and I probably won't make it either. Wonder how a self-driving car would handle that.
Truth: Uranus is (sometimes) visible with the naked eye.

Yes, I've read that it's sometimes visible. However, few people will admit to staring at Uranus.
and maybe if you stand on a public street (as long as it really is a publicly owned street).

My mom doesn't have one of those new-fangled computers and doesn't need it. Except for all the stuff I've ordered online for her, and the occasional account I've set up so she can get some discount or other.
On the other side of the coin, I've found that I hate working from home in the summer, and enjoy it in the winter. The winter, with -40C -- well, the reasons are obvious. The summer? Well, there's a lot to see on the way to work, it's pleasant and nice to get out.
I haven't worked from home, but I'm sure my opinion of it would be based on the season. Winter snow and ice, great. Summer, with no central AC, not so great.

If your region loses electricity for any significant period of time your local gas station won't be pumping any liquid fuel. OTOH during the last hurricane evacuation from Houston - bumper-to-bumper traffic for 16 hours - Priuses made it through due to regenerative braking while liquid fuel vehicles ran dry. So there's that.
A prius isn't a true electric car. Last week, I had a power outage, and true enough, the gas station near my house was out. I ended up driving to my GF's on the other side of town. I MIGHT have made it there in a non-Tesla electric car - barely if I started with a full charge. I didn't even think about it in my trusty gas car.
Even houses that don't have garages, requiring outdoor chargers, make ownership less attractive.
Yup! I have a mental picture of a loong extension cord running from my driveway to my house. Not very appealing.

Not only THIS, but even on Netflix, binge watching a series, the constant dramatic-crisis-leading-to-a-black-cut-and-back-to-the-scene-not-quite-as-it-was every 4-5 minutes showing where the commercial was "supposed" to be is highly annoying. It interrupts the story and wastes valuable story telling time. Agents of Shield and Once Upon A Time are recent series I have noted with this issue.
I've noticed that. Often I start reaching for my remote before realizing "This is Netflix! I don't have to FF past the ads".
Win 8.1 isn't too terrible, as long as I can avoid Metro. But I'm still going to upgrade. Not sure if I'd upgrade from 7 though.
