Comment Outlets at work? Not yet. (Score 3, Informative) 688

This despite the prevalence of outlets at home and work, ...

I've never worked anywhere, in my 30 years in the workforce, that had any outlets (free or pay) in or even near the parking lot. Perhaps that will change over time as EVs become more prevalent, but I don't see any evidence of that now around where I live and work in Virginia Beach. (inb4: YMMV)

The fingerprinting is far more secure.

But also problematic, from a usability standpoint. As people that actually work with their hands know, the ability to take a reliable fingerprint can be impeded by blisters, etc. For example, a (long) while ago I had to delay getting my fingerprints taken at NASA because my finger tips were beaten up from recently working around the house and on my car.

Second this, but don't know why, at least, they can't all be displayed?

BTW, I solved this, and the video stories by adding this rule to my Proxomitron config file for "slashdot.org":

Matching expression: </head>
Replacement Text:
<style>
.fhitem-poll { display: none !important; }
.nav-social { display: none !important; }
.popularity { display: none !important; }

And killed auto audio play using:
Matching Expression: <audio \1 autoplay="*" \2>

One of the many reasons mods are upset is that the employee who was fired was (by all accounts) crucial to the reliability and credibility of AMAs.

Pro Tip: Pay close attention anytime a manager or company says something like "employees are our most valuable asset" or "... are critical to our success" because that's what they look/sound like when they're lying to you.

By the time off-world colonies are viable, pollution on Earth will be a non-issue, because the exact same technology needed to sustain an offworld colony is the technology that would allow us to clean and recycle absolutely everything here on Earth. Because that's exactly what you need for a self-sustaining offworld colony: recycled everything.

Not really, no. There are far more than enough raw materials floating around up there, along with masses of energy from the sun, to construct very quick and dirty space stations indeed with zero need for recycling as long as you have reasonably secure supply chains.
