Comment Why it is FUD especially for bank robbery scenario (Score 1) 468

Was only marks STOPPED police cars, that are also by the side of the road with someone in them. You (the person using Waze) wouldn't mark a cop parked to eat lunch, or just driving around (how could you mark a car driving around? It's not like Waze is selling GPS tracking magnets... hmm...)

So for someone thinking of robbing a bank or anyone else, all you know is where the police cars are that are in speed traps. At any given moment there are a ton of police cara simply driving all about, that Waze has no indication.

Using Waze does not mean you can speed like crazy, just that you can keep up with traffic without worrying about being singled out for a stop because of the color of your car or yourself.

Waze is also REALLY useful to know when there's traffic ahead (people telling Waze where traffic is beats every other mapping solution I have used) and also hazards like giant potholes, or cars stuck in the road.

The main advantage of subclassing over switch statements isn't the number of lines, it's that if you want to make a change in the future, you only have to change the decision point in one place, instead of once for every overridden function.

You can tell that subclassing is useful sometimes because people do it in C also, with structs filled with function pointers. It's just not useful to always force your code into a class hierarchy (and indeed, is counter-productive to attempt).

As for the 'useful' independent studies, I'll have to look again when I go home. But you didn't specify 'useful' in your original post. :)

What difference does it make? If it's not commerce, the federal government can create a tax that will confiscate all the man's grain. Problem solved.

If a majority of the people want a larger federal government over a long-enough period of time, no constitution ever written will prevent it.

I'm interested in your follow-up question, though.

That's actually what it's like at "Mojave Spaceport". Hangers of small aviation practicioners and their junk. Gary Hudson, Burt Rutan, etc. Old aircraft and parts strewn about. Left-over facilities from Rotary Rocket used by flight schools. A medium-sized facility for Orbital. Some big facilities for BAE, etc. An aircraft graveyard next door.

If the primary goal of the media is to get views then why wouldn't they be leaping all over a story about high-profile lobbyist being caught in a child sex ring?

Because it wouldn't get as many views as you think.

Why are they letting something so juicy stay under the radar?

Because it's not as juicy as you think.

It probably didn't help that the GoF book was so hard to read.

Hard to read, plus poorly researched, plus didn't demonstrate that they are commonly needed, plus the fact that trying to jam everything into design patterns results in bad software, plus the fact that they don't really help programmers become much better......

For a beginner, curly braces may seem more readable. For an experienced programmer, Python wins. Curly braces lead to ambiguous interpretation, whereas indentation guarantees a single interpretation and stands out well.

To both beginner and experts alike, making invisible characters, such as whitespace, possess significance is too much of a religious thing ;-)
