If you on the UK want us to dam up our rivers and build roads out to geothermal areas and tap into our resources, and raise our local power prices in the process, all for the benefit of the UK, our government better damn well profit as much as possible from it and reduce our taxes / improve our services in exchange for that.

Better negotiate the contract during a Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn / Framsóknarflokkurinn (conservative) government. Samfylkingin would approve it under the condition that the Icelandic government's share of the sales are so high that you would barely save any money on the imported power, and Vinstri Grænir would outright reject it no matter what you offered. But Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn and Framsóknarflokkurinn would let you dam up whatever rivers you want and take gigawatts of power in exchange for a handful of shiny trinkets and a couple magic beans.

Huh? My Palm Pre Wireless charging base used the standard charging cable that came with the phone to power it. Instead of plugging and unplugging my phone, i jsut set it on the dock, easy-peasy. It even had magnets so it would almost pull it out of your hand and align it. IN my car i had the same usb mini charger i have had for years. Why has it taken so long for anyone else to do this?

You've got to be joking. Abrams' Kirk is criminally incompetent (even in the first movie, before your "Khan wanted him to screw up" rationalization could apply). The plots of both movies have holes big enough to drive a planet through, let alone a starship. (For example, WTF is the point of starships anymore, since they can apparently just beam across the galaxy now?!)

DS9 got pretty dark (e.g. Homefront/Paradise Lost, In the Pale Moonlight), but it was good. Abrams alleged-'trek' sucked for (many, many) other reasons.

Even so, having a physical switch is already helpful. I don't need to worry about the firmware malware if I don't ever have the intention to flip the switch. I only need to take measures to secure the computer against the malware if I plan to flash the firmware. A physical switch is a very powerful countermeasure to thwart remote attackers. U2F tokens also use it to secure two-factor authentication.
