How the hell is China having awful pollution the fault of IBM? By golly I know IBM is not perfect, but all the cases I have personally seen, customers dump a pile of crap into IBM's hands, then hamstring them while demanding they polish the turd.

At OSCON 2006 I was sitting in one of the green rooms (the spaces set aside for speakers before presentations). My laptop was open and I was happily hacking away on a project. As I killed a bug and checked the code back in, I muttered under my breath, "Python, I love you. You make the hard stuff so easy."

I noticed a few seconds later the room had gone utterly silent. I looked up, and sitting at the table across from me was Damian Conway, tapping away on his own laptop doing his own thing. I blinked a couple of times and suddenly noticed the entire room was expecting a Perl-vs-Python argument to erupt.

Damian looked up from his work, noticed everyone was looking nervous. He looked over at me, I gave a "I don't know what's up with them, uh, help?" look and a shrug.

Damian then looked back at the crowd and grinned. "Listen, the only thing I love more than Perl is well-written software, even if it's written in Python." He looked back over to me. "Kill a bug, didja?" I nodded. He gave me a smile and a thumbs-up, then returned to his code. I returned to mine, and after a few seconds the room let out his breath.

Look, we all know you are lost at this point but the deal is that with system extensions a user of your app can perform different editing of images in your app based on what other applications they have installed.

DUH.

Did you even look at what iOS8 can do at all? Or are you just totally ignoring the key point?

That's because the law requires them to do this. They must either take down the content, or you must provide an official counter-response. There is no 3rd-option of saying "This request is bogus, ignore it" even if it actually is bogus.

Actually no it's not. If your image editing program can make further use of external plug-ins, then you don't care about having it produce the same across platforms because it will never be the same FOR EACH USER.

Would you truly argue that image editing programs should not allow for plugins, that there is no value? Because you are.

There is some base level of functionality it is useful to provide. But my point is why would you PAY for only that base?

So either that means you embed this thing in iOS8 and have a separate way to get to it from the system extensions for editing, which means it's not the same as any other platform...

Or you don't use it and just use the system extensions which means it's not the same as any other platform...

OR you only us this and don't allow system extensions in which case it's the same across all platforms and zero people are using your product on iOS because every other app gets to use system extensions for editing instead of your singular library.

It would be awesome if browsers provide add-ins that search using the US Google, then highlight the differences.

They didn't remove the article entirely.

They don't say which searches, but the wording implies that searches for Stan O'Neal will be affected. But searches for the former CEO of Merril Lynch should work just fine.

What foundations do that? The Apache foundation doesn't. I don't know anything about Yorba.

Would a 20-year old news article about getting into a bar fight really need removal? That isn't going to keep the person from getting a job or something. Someone who judges people from 20-year old charges isn't worth working for.

The power to arbitrarily remove someone else's published works is horrible - it's like the 1st amendment in reverse. There's no legitimate reason for that, and this example of a wealthy person trying to hide their laundry is proof.

What foundations do that? I agree that they are not non-profits if they are charging support or consulting fees. Usually they don't do that.

You are welcome. Are you using Slashdot Beta? I am on the old one. I tried it in IN, FF, and Chrome and it did the same thing. But somehow it always serves me the old-skool design even though I am not logged-in on 2 of those 3 browsers.

Stop using the picture taking analogy. It doesn't work because there are specifically laws forbidding taking pictures of the inside of someone's house.
