I'm pretty sure that about the only thing he won't fuck-up about SW is turning it into the same "teenagers in space kaboom" that he made ST into, because he can't - that's what it was from the word "go".

Of course the poor box-office of Tomorrowland is one data point, which the superstitious oracles at Disney have taken as an omen that any film which has certain factors in common with it will also fail.... rather than an indication that maybe this movie was specifically not very good, or not properly marketed.

Actually, it was the GIMP team themselves broke saving in 2.8. (If they've since fixed it, then sourceforge probably just doesn't have the updates).

Their GNOME-like "reasoning" was that "professional" users wanted to save in XCF, and that amateurs should just use something else. It rang pretty hollow when the gold-standard Photoshop didn't behave the same way.

I agree with most of what you said, but this one stumps me. You've just defined a primitive array - An array named var of type type and size size. Other than its... well, primitiveness (no fancy default conversions, no memory management, no overloads to deal with it as a whole), what about that syntax do you object to?

Comment The minor pentatonic scale changed my life. (Score 2) 111

I'm serious about the subject line.

The notes in the minor pentatonic scale go so well with blues and most rock music that any idiot (such as me) can produce a musical-sounding improvisation. Just randomly picking out notes in the scale, or going up and down parts of the scale, sounds great on top of the I/IV/V-based progressions that make up so much of modern music. And let me tell you, when you're an at-best "advanced beginner" musician, and you solo for the very first time and something that sounds like music comes out, it feels as good as any sex ever did. My interest in the guitar had been flagging a bit, until a teacher taught me the minor pentatonic scale and gave me the opportunity to play some solos on top of his chords; since then, I've wanted to learn guitar, play guitar, etc. pretty much non-stop.

Because, about 60 years ago, Cornell had the brilliant idea to offer a degree in "Women's Studies", so that college could be both expensive *and* useless. The recipients thereof have since spent better than half a century driving the point that a vagina is a suitable substitute for competence.
