Submission + - Ipod owners not as loyal to brand as Mac owners

Virtual_Raider writes: A survey indicates that iPod owners may not be as loyal to their devices as Mac owners are to their computers, thus opening the possibility for Microsoft's Zune to enter the market. Surveyed people also indicated a high likelyness of buying the much maligned brown device. But that doesn't mean that the market is now at Microsoft's mercy. RTFA for a change!

Microsoft Will Allow Vista Reinstalls 349

Claus Valca writes "I just spotted over on the Windows Vista Team Blog the news that the Windows Vista retail licensing terms are being revised. Looks like PC home-brew system builders have been let back into the Vista party!" From the article: "Our intention behind the original terms was genuinely geared toward combating piracy; however, it's become clear to us that those original terms were perceived as adversely affecting an important group of customers: PC and hardware enthusiasts. You who comprise the enthusiast market are vital to us for several reasons, not least of all because of the support you've provided us throughout the development of Windows Vista. We respect the time and expense you go to in customizing, building and rebuilding your hardware and we heard you that the previous terms were seen as an impediment to that — it's for that reason we've made this change."

We're having a BOY!

AND ANOTHER CHILD OF UNDETERMINED SEX!

We're having twins! Totally unexpected. We didn't know until a couple hours ago. I'm still in total shock. I've already gone through the mental list of costs, and we're gonna have a hard time making it in the upcoming months. Daycare'll wipe out my wife's income completely and then some. We'll manage, I'm sure, but its scary thinking about it.

Submission + - E-Voting in decline?!

arnim rupp writes: "Things are moving quite fast in the e-voting-business at the moment. Suspicion arouse the Hugo Chávez dug into U.S. vote-machines, which one might consider a very clever hack to convince US citizens that voting machines might not be 100% trustworthy. Today the city of amsterdam announced it is not going to use SDU-voting-machines for the elections on 22. november. And in germany a anti voting machine petition already got one third of the signatures needed to make it a topic in the bundestag-parliament."

Submission + - Why developers should boycott online outsourcing

miclauren writes: This article comes hot and heels of the recent RentACoder discussion on Slashdot, it argues that the problems pointed out in the discussion are more endemic, and develoeprs are being taken for a ride by these outsourcing services for the benefit of the clients. These services are distorting the software market, devalueing software development and spoiling customers! It calls for developers to boycott all such sites, so that a new generation of 'fairer' sites emerge!

Journal Journal: WTB: CSS Coder; Joomla skinning, will tip. 1

I'm on vacation in Florida this week, and my friend with whom I'm staying is working on a few websites. Before I showed him my blog and the administration backend of Joomla, he was planning on hiring someone full time to make all of the pages look the same, and do layout work. I told him that I can setup the server for his domain (already setup) and do a lot of the administration, but I'd need to pull in reenforcements for the design aspect.

This is a paying gig.
