That would probably cut into their margin.

When I worked at a gas station I spent the time one overnight shift to figure out how much things cost in the fountain drinks using the venerable 44oz as my best example. Typically the margin on something like that is around 95% but if you really want to stick it to the vendor grab an extra straw and lid as those were the most expensive things in the whole setup, then the wax paper cup, ice, syrup, and finally water+CO2 (couldn't figure out how to separate these costs since I didn't know how much CO2 is in the soda). Ice kind may stand out as odd but it is something that requires constant making even if it isn't used so that is why it ended up costing more than the water and syrup, but the bulk of the cost is in the cup, straw, and lid. Also the marginal difference in cost between a 44oz and the small 16oz one was about 3 cents for the producer.

Either you drive more than I do or you have vehicles with weaker cats than mine have. The cats on the daily drivers I have had usually last 140,000 miles but then for some reason OEM BMW cats don't like the abuse of actually driving in a spirited manner and getting close to the red at wide open throttle. My Jeep on the other hand as the factory original cat on it, is 18 years old, and has 375,??? miles on it and the cat is good. If I were you I would look into getting things checked out like seeing if you have some bad O2 sensors, a weak spark plug, bad head gasket leak(great way to poison a cat), or excessive oil consumption (good a fouling/plugging a cat). Most cat problems are from overheating so there is excess hydrocarbons in the exhaust stream so figure that out

I believe that the court can compel you to unlock a safe. The question I wonder is one I saw mentioned a long time ago here on /. is can the court compel you to interpret something you have written for the prosecution? What if I wrote some cryptic message in a made up language on some paper do I have to tell the court what it means or could I tell them to go pound sand?

I hate people like that, but is is fun to push their face in it when they become so judgmental about such things. My sister had a boyfriend like that but his thing was money. In his mind the worth of a person was determined by how much the things they wore cost. One day he was showing off his new Rolex watch his parents got him for his birthday and spouting that it cost $5000 (this kid was in high school mind you) to me. My response was "What your parents couldn't afford a nice Rolex so they bought you a crappy cheap bottom of the line one instead?". It was actually fun watching him being put in his place and making him feel as little as he tried to make others feel.

I never said it was legal to prevent access to public property, only responding to the comment about blocking ones driveway. I would fully expect that the city of San Francisco would be within their rights to tow or otherwise dispose of vehicles participating in this practice. I actually think impounding the vehicles would be a good move since that is usually a major inconvenience and a fairly substantial expense since they have to pay for the tow and pay to get the vehicle out of the impound lot as well (at least they do where I live).
