That's my suggestion. Biosphere 1 and 2 were both failures. We don't know enough to make sustainable closed biospheres work on Earth, much less in orbit or on Mars. When we have something that lasts 10 years, we might be on to something. Until then, practice, practice, practice... Baby steps. How about an L5 or two to start.

They seem to be all over the map, in good ways and bad. Geniuses who can't ever seem to finish a project. Good, solid, mediocre developers who churn out working, but unspectacular code year after year. Quite frankly, I prefer the latter. They can make you profitable. Eccentric geniuses? Not so much, and quite frankly, not worth the effort. If you feel it necessary to write a compiler in assembler, more power to you, but do it on your own time. It has no impact on our mundane, memory-inefficient, but maintainable C# apps.

Can you prove intent with global climate change? If you ignore the utterly non-scientific process of "scientific consensus", do you even have enough data left to prove the murder weapon?
 
And in the long run, does it matter? We're still left with the decision to either adapt or die; we're far too late for any mitigation attempt to work. Blame the culprit is a waste of time in this case.

Usually, I'd agree with you. In this case the laptop is a bit of a Frankenstein model. The CPU is an engineering sample of an AMD A-10, and the BIOS is missing details of serial numbers, etc. Makes for an odd boot, but it was cheap and does what I want. I've also replaced the stock RAM, drive, wireless, BlueTooth and everything else that could be replaced.

The reboot thing is new and I suspect it has something to do with the boot loader. I expect to be able to fix it.

The Wifi I'll have to investigate. I have some leads, but should be able to fix it.

If it were an off-the-shelf model I'd agree with you, but because of what I've done to it I am a bit more tolerant.

Under the FOSS drivers on both AMD and nVidia I can play the video fine, but if I move the mouse into the window, it lags.

With the proprietary drivers this doesn't happen.

Species that are unable to adapt have been going extinct without mankind's help for 9/10ths of the planet's history. For the remaining 1/10th, we've been a major motivator of evolution, that's true- Dodos and wooly mammoths and the like. But we are also to the point with GMO research that we can be a major cause of increased adaptation- we can speed up evolution, and likely will, because beef is tasty (among many other species that are directly useful to us, such as bees). Speaking of that last, just saw a report on OPB about a pair of beekeepers with a unique solution to colony collapse disorder- they're breeding stronger queen bees that can live through Oregon winters.

If mankind wants to survive, food needs to be our top priority. Luckily, as I mentioned someplace above I think, food production is also an answer to excess atmospheric carbon. Especially if we keep locking our own carbon up in airtight containers buried in concrete when we die.
