Trump is winning because of votes from people living in trailer parks, not because of donations from Wall Street. DeSantis wants to be the next Trump.

There's a lot of mythology around who Trump voters are. Part of it is that statistics can be confusing, especially if you're prone to jump to conclusions. Yes Trump wins the voters without a college degree, and people without college degrees tend to make less money, but we can't leap to the conculsion that Trump voters are poor. In fact, data shows Trump lost the $50k and under income group solidly in both 2016 and 2020. In 2016 he won every income group greater than $50k, although only *strongly* in the $50k -$99k group. In 2020 he solidly lost every income group betlow $100k, but but won the over $100k group by an enormous 12 point margin.

Putting it all together, Trump's core voter group are people with limited educational attainment who are economically comfortable of (good for them) well off without having a college degree. However he doesn't own any particular socioeconomic group; really elections are determined by changes in turnout in key swing states. There was strong turnout among Trump's *share* of $50-$99 ke voters in 2016; I don't think many of those voters changed their mind, but their compatriots who sat 2016 out came out to vote in 2020.

Just because the cigarette industry pictured doctors recommending smoking in its advertising didn't mean that *all* doctors, or even most thought smoking was healthy for you. This was largely in the 30s and 40s when they took advantage of a positive attitude toward science and particular medical science. They began to pull back from this after 1950 when evidence was mounting for the link between smoking and cancer, for fear of pushback from the medical community.

Apple or Amazon would also be decent homes for Paramount, IMO, for the same reason as Netflix.

Sony, IMO, is already way too big in the content industry. Antitrust regulators should absolutely step in and block any consolidation like this.

Amazon already has MGM

Antitrust regulators Did pretty much nothing when Disney Slwallowed Fox, and there was much more Overlap. They will probably do nothing here, except to make sure that sony's involvement on CBS is bellow 50%

I was Hoping NetFlix would grab Paramount, as (other than Paramount +) there is no overlap between the two. Then again, Skydance was also a good choice (and better than sony, no doubt).

Sony Is the lesser evil compared with the alternatives (Like Warner/Dicovery) but is still bad...

1.) Sony was one of the few "neutral" content distributors, licensing content to pretty much all streamers in a somewhat equal footing (except some sweetheart deals with disney doe to the shared marvelverse interests). Expect that, as those agreements lapse, more of sony's content will be only available inside Paramount Plus (whatever it is called).

2.) We already lost fox as an independent studio, if this comes to pass, we will lose paramount too (will be under sony).

3.) one positive is that, since Sony has no TV networks in the USoA, there is not a situation like ABC (i.e. disney) + FoxTV. But a negative is that Sony's TV productions were available to all, now, they will be only on CBS. (Most likely, there will be some MBA-esque contortions so that Sony only oewns 49% of CBS)

4.) Another positive is that sony will not be involved in American amusements.

5.) Another positive is a lot more of Sony programming (due to lower cost as intra-company pricing) getting into PlutoTV, which is always nice.

I hope they go with Skydance ot NetFlix...

But if a Big Studio it was to be, Sony + Apollo is the lesser evil.

Comment Re:HD Radio for AM (Score 1) 311

The cost is less likely to be the issue vs performance. You need a large ugly antenna to get decent signal strength. Making ugly cars does not go down well with buyers. Compared with all other sources (non-HD) AM sounds like shit. Shit sounding stereos do not go down with buyers. So they simply reduce risk and remove a seldom missed option in favor of more sales.

External ugly antennas, telescopic, screw-on or otherwise are from 2~3 decades ago.

Nowadays, the back windshield defroster traces do doble duty as your AM and FM antennae. If you remove the AM antenna, there is more space for a better FM antenna.

The little stump on top near the back of some cars (AKA Shark Fin Antenna) is for GPS + Cellular (for OnStar-like services) + Sat Radio.

Some cars put a "stick AM/FM" antenna on top of the shak fin antenna, but that is either:

For nostalgic purposes more than for extra reception
or
As cost savings in markets where there is no Sat Radio + Car Cell Services + GPS.

Its bad enough many cars dont include AUX jacks anymore.

That's politically popular across the board because it's spending *later* money and it puts money in bankers' pockets.
