Whoopsie, part 3

There may be an optimal size for a democratic society that is actually responsive to the citizenry (or can even fake it with any believability), and it looks like the US is well past that size. Same as India, Russia, China, Indonesia, etc.

Of course, tyrannies scale to any size, large or small.

Literally no one has thought this, apart from you, apparently. Most people thought this because Trump made "Draining the swamp" a core plank of his run. And, unlike the other clowns running, he actually had a credible path to achieving this, having the least amount of elite ties and commitments. Also worth mentioning that out of all his promises, this one was the easiest for him achieve, so he's essentially

Say whaaa? That was sarcasm, right?

          • Well, on a relative scale, he was slightly more of a Washington outsider than Hillary. He did, of course, brag about buying politicians when he needed them, but he could also boast about having never ran for anything or ever having served his country in any way shape or form before. He could have actually selected all people with no ties to the federal government but his handlers were willing to stop him from doing that fully.

The irony here is that now only the dems can stop cronyism from overrunning the white house. However they would need to spontaneously grow a spine to pull that off, which is one of the least likely things I could imagine happening in 2017 or 2018. I think there is a better chance of Bernie Sanders moving to Canada.

I don't know that it is a size matter (population or geographic). I'm pretty sure it is more about the way power is structured and brokered. The system does indeed lock people out, and disen

        • The democratic brand is not losing for lack of 'spine'. The democratic voter on the other hand is a different story. They fall for anything the party tells them. And yes, the republicans too...

Power and the 'system' are structured by the most basic animal psychology. There is nothing particularly human about it. There is no conspiracy. And how do you expect the other half to get up and vote when you have convinced them the entire 'system' is completely corrupt and voting for anything but the two factions is

          • The democratic brand is not losing for lack of 'spine'.

They most certainly are. For a short window of time the democrats had majorities in both chambers and a president with their brand on him as well. What did they accomplish in that time? Pretty well nothing. Even more so, if you compare it to what the GOP would have done for "health care reform" in the same time window, the answer is exactly nothing.

And then you see what they accomplished (nothing) and you realize that the voters are aware of it, and you see why they couldn't hold on to power in 201

            • The democrats and republicans are a single team. All the bickering between them is strictly theatrics for the viewing audience, which also has you fished in if you're going to keep going around saying they have 'no spine'. Their moves are well calculated to make sure they monopolize the entire process. They accomplish 'nothing' because that was always the intent. The Trump thing is working like a charm, and they can depend on people like you guys to obsess on the superficial bullshit and reliably reelect 97
