Journal mcgrew's Journal: Eleven: The Final Chapter 1

Well, it looks like it was the year of chapter 11. The banks, insurance companies, GM, a couple of airlines, all reorganized under chapter 11. If you believe the Mayan Calendar doomsayer loonies, well, this is the final chapter.

So with that out of the way, it's that time of year again. The time of year when everyone and their dog waxes nostalgic about all the shit nobody cares about from the year past, and stupidly predicts the next year in the grim knowlege that when the next New Year comes along nobody will remember that the dumbass predicted a bunch of foolish shit that turned out to be complete and utter balderdash.

I might as well, too. Just like I did last year (yes, a lot of this was pasted from last year's final chapter).

I've come up with a tentative title for the book that will come out of the time travel stories: Everything you know is wrong. I still have no idea how I'll weave these separate stories into one tome, or how it will end. But here they are so far (including the space alien story).

Accepted slashdot submissions:
Well, they changed stuff again. In previous years you could type slashdot.org/~name/submissions in the URL bar for name's submissions, and it would tell you which were accepted and which were rejected, just scroll down the list. Now there is only a link to the submission, with no indication of whether or not that submission was accepted, and no link to accepted stories, only the submission. So I guess I'll have to discontinue this count.

Last years' stupid predictions:

Either I'll still be dating Tammy this time next year, or I won't.
I'm not, and in fact haven't spoken to her for months. Was with Kathie after Tammy, I wonder who (if anybody) I'll be with next year?

Someone will die. Not necessarily anybody I know...
SETI will find no sign of intelligent life. Not even on Earth.
The Pirate Bay won't make inroads in the US. I hope I'm wrong about that one

Got those right.

In Soviet Russia, something will happen to YOU!

Er, nope, missed on that one. Soviet Russia's dead, Jim.

US politicians will continue to be wholly owned by the corporations
I'll still be a nerd
You'll still be a nerd
technophobic fashionista jocks will troll slashdot
Slashdot will be rife with dupes
Many FSes will be poorly edited

Got those right as well! Balls of crystal, fellas! Well, they got better about the dupes. But I missed out on the next one:
I'll finally get that book in paper form
Sigh. I hope to get it out shortly. I'll go ahead and predict that again. Here are a few more that I'll just keep from last year's:

I had thought that next December I would be eligible to retire, but I made a math error -- I'm already eligible. Too bad I won't be able to afford it until I can collect Social Security. Imagine how much more I'll be writing when I no longer have to work!

Happy New Year! Ready for another trip around the sun?
