Submission + - Computer glitch stops United Flights

sparhawktn writes: "A United Airlines computer outage this morning at O'Hare International Airport is keeping passengers from checking in and is grounding the airline's flights at the airport.".."FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory said that United had done a ground stop of its planes on its own, and while that officially that had ended at 7:55 a.m., there was no indication when flights would be leaving the airport again. The problem began about 5:15 a.m., she said."
And the best line ever..
"The employees are really stumped," said Norder, who was returning home to Ft. Worth today. "They're trying to figure out what to do." As she spoke, a voice came over the plane's public-address system. Fixing the computer system, "can be a long and arduous process," the voice said."

Submission + - Troops pay baggage fees on way to war

sparhawktn writes: There is something fundamentally wrong with this picture and it doesn't matter if you are for or against the war. In my opinion this is the same as having the police or fire pay for their own gas while going to assist someone. What is the point to this? No one can make any logical or sensible argument for something so stupid.
Some airlines are charging U.S. soldiers extra baggage fees to take their military kits with them as they set off for war. Military personnel carry large, heavy kit bags containing boots, clothing and gear. In the past few months, airlines have instituted fees for all travelers ranging from $15 for one bag to $250 for a third bag.
Submission + - Coming to a Gmail near you. Gmail Labs!

sparhawktn writes: It appears those wizkids at Google have something new for their Gmail application.

People often ask how we decide what to build next......Gmail Labs is a way for us to take lots of the ideas we wouldn't normally pick and let you all (who use Gmail) decide whether they're good or not.

Submission + - Gas prices got you down?

sparhawktn writes: With all the hype about gas prices, food prices, the price of prices where prices are just too high and maybe our "government" can help us just take a look at places where the "government" is doing something Link

Goes to show you never know how good you have it till you look at the other guy.
