Journal nizo's Journal: Personality types, the universe, and everything 18

The hardest part of taking these tests (for me) is answering honestly (and not trying to answer how I would LIKE to be, not how I actually behave). That said, take any answers with a grain of salt (and taking the tests multiple times can be helpful)

http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp

I took this test twice and got slightly different answers; also I took the test a third time trying to score answers exactly opposite of what I would normally answer. Basically from looking at those three tests, I am INTP, though I lean in the INTJ direction.

I keep getting different scores on this one. I like the in-depth nature, but I think some of the questions are just too ambiguous for me to answer.

All that said, the description of an INTP sounds exactly like me, which is undoubtedly why I have such a hard time staying in a job once I get bored with it :-| Yet another thing to consider as I look at where my career should go next.

    • Actually, I change my habits every few years, so that was a No for me.

Not every single one, of course - I tend to like to read, for example.
  • Both: I'm an INTJ. No surprise.

    • Me too. But only just. I actually alternate readily between introvert and extrovert depending on the situation.
    • Ditto:

      I guess it's true that I'm a judgmental bastard.
      • I suppose I should add this part:

        # slightly expressed introvert
        # distinctively expressed intuitive personality
        # distinctively expressed thinking personality
        # very expressed judging personality
  • I should point out I used to be introverted until somewhere in my 20s when I was thrust into the public eye a lot from writing, fan activities, and military leadership roles. So the Extravert/Introvert thing is more of a learned behavior in my adult life. Most people think I'm an Extrovert, but I'm really an Introvert who has adapted my Intuitive Thinking Judging personality to be an Extrovert.

I always show up right in the middle of the E and the I for reasons very similar to those you mention.

Nope.... the ENTPs will see you coming and stop you! :-) I didn't take this one, but every other Keirsey/Briggs-Meyers sorter I've taken sticks me into ENTP, though I'm not very extroverted. Like others here, I learned to be an extrovert. In my case, I just decided when I entered college that I would be more outspoken and friendly. It's a habit now.
    • I'm an INTJ, but I also have to adopt Extrovert-type interaction habits because of what I do - writing, speaking, management, leadership roles, etc.

The subject came up in a committee meeting once. Somebody was encouraging me to attend a training session where the type testing was part of the deal. I mentioned that I'd been tested a number of times, and was consistently an INTJ. "Well, I don't know what kind of testing they used, because there's no WAY you're an introvert!"

  • The fatal flaw in their reasoning: Just because I can empathize with people, doesn't mean I actually give a damn! :)

So I guess I'm an "INFJ" because I'm introverted, but I think *and* feel.
  • The best place to take every imaginable personality test there is, is on OK Cupid. http://www.okcupid.com/ [okcupid.com]

Check it out. I'm real_vladinator there.
  • First one: INTJ
    Strength of the preferences
    Introverted - 67%
    Intuitive - 62%
    Thinking - 6%
    Judging - 56%

    Second one:
    INFP 82%
    INFJ 74%
    ENFP 72%
    INTP 70%
    INTJ 68%
    ISFP 67%
    ENTP 66%
    ISTP 55%
    ENFJ 53%
    ISFJ 42%
    ENTJ 41%
    ESFP 40%
    ESFJ 38%
    ISTJ 36%
    ESTP 34%
    ESTJ 26%

I would, apart from these specific test results, self-catalogue as an INTJ.
  • I'm either an ESTP or ISTP, depending on which of those tests you have more faith in. I used to be a lot more introverted and shy when I was a kid, but learned how to come out of my shell when I realized that it didn't matter much. Now I'm usually the first to speak up in an uncomfortable silence, just because I'd rather get people talking than staring at each other.

As far as the other attributes, I'm not wildly swinging in any direction (although I lean toward the thinking side.) I try for balance in

  • I think if these tests tell you lots of surprising things, they are broken :-)

I've never found one of these tests tell me something I didn't really already know. I suppose they are useful for other people who are trying to figure out who they are dealing with.
