jwhyche writes: Linux systems running kernels prior to 5.0.8 require an emergency patch to high-severity flaw that could be used to remotely compromise a system. The flaw is found it in systems running the Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS) for the TCP module are the only system affected.

While the attack complexity is describe as 'high' any such attack must be launched from the local network. Because of this the exploit has been given a CVSS 3.0 score, and a exploit ability score of 2.2.

jwhyche writes: The new Fieldbus system has been deemed ready to be released into the staging area of the kernel. The new subsystem will be released in the upcoming 5.2 release of the Linux kernel. The system has gone over 10 rounds of public revisions and should be staging in May, with the stable release in July.

jwhyche writes: AMD New Epyc Rome Server processor could feature up to 162 PCIe Lanes. This is more than twice as much as Intel's Xeon 9200 CPU with 80 total lanes. The new Epyc processor would be Gen 4 PCIe where Intel is still using Gen 3. Gen 4 PCIe features twice the bandwidth of the older Gen 3 specification.

Looks like AMD is getting geared up to give Intel a serous run in the sever market too.

jwhyche writes: The New Horizons space probe has been in hibernation mode since Dec. 21. On June 5th the space craft exited hibernation mode and begin preparing for its next encounter. The space craft is currently 3.7 billion miles from Earth and will be spending the next few months preparing with its flyby of Ultima Thule. The craft will flyby Ultima Thule, officially 2014 MU69, during the New Year's holiday.

What she is attempting to do is get people to sign a petition supporting Initiative 1631, known as the "Protect Washington Act." If this was to pass Washington state would become the first state to adopt anything like a carbon tax.

Submission + - New Horizons probe captures record distance image of Earth (engadget.com)

jwhyche writes: The New Horizons probe has captured the farthermost image of Earth. The probe took a image of Earth from a distance of over 3.79 billion miles on December 5th of 2017. This beats the image taken from Voyager One 27 years ago. The Voyager image was taken at a distance of 3.75 billion miles and has become known as the "Pale Blue Dot" photo.

jwhyche writes: If you bought some illegal narcotics off Silk Road or even gave money to Wikileaks. Researchers at Qatar University and Hamad Bin Khalifa University have been able to link these transactions with real world identities. They have been able to do this even if the transactions are years old. Their research shows how easy it is to link accounts to these transactions without using any of the tools available to law enforcement like search warrants or subpoenas. This shows that even years latter these transactions remain visible in the block chain for anyone to find.
