  • It would be very ironic if somehow prior to Bush's departure from office some militant terror group threatened *our* freedom which allowed Bush to use his Presidential power to declare a state of emergency or whatever. What if as a result this allowed him to extend his presidency until the state of emergency was resolved?

    How is that for a conspiracy?
  • Much more likely that the 'Guard doesn't expect him to survive the next three years. No use having a statue that says '09 if he doesn't make it to '07.
  • I mean, honestly, it's very common to *not* etch in stone what isn't known for certain, hence the phrase "it isn't written in stone".

    After all, it's quite possible that the current war on terror may require Bush to (not unlike Roosevelt) take executive privileges and...well, do whatever it is he does with war-like powers, like declare stuff accomplished. And rolling up sleeves.

    And it's also possible that some other unforeseen thing could happen, like his accidentally falling down a long set of stairs and l

    • Except for one problem: There's a difference between cranks and mainstream conservatives.

      Not so much for the left. The fringe wackos - the Markos "Screw Them" Zuniga's, the Cindy Sheehan's, the denizens of DemocraticUndergroud - are no different than what John Kerry and Ted Kennedy are saying today.

      So unlike the Republicans, the Democrats are letting the kooks run the party.

        • Is there a conspiracy about Ted Kennedy? I mean he did get loaded. He did drive off of a bridge. His passenger was unconscious. She did drown in the car. And he did leave the scene. Is there some reason he didn't spend a second in jail?

          I mean at least the police visited Laura when she got into the car accident with her boyfriend.
          • You're aiming the gun in the wrong direction. In that episode, Kennedy was a "conspirator," not a "conspiracy theorist." So, more a Karl Rove (aspirant) than an Ann Coulter.

            It's a matter of personal taste which evil you think is lesser in a politician.

            Bush's habit of DUI could have ended the same way, if he hadn't reached the stage of having all his cars driven for him soon enough.
