Journal blinder's Journal: Can't Breathe, Laughing 23

so, its after dinner and sol and i are just sitting in the studio/office... i was showing sol a few methods of how to hold drum sticks (classic vs. modern) - sol is going to learn how to play drums... and you always start with learning how to hold the drums sticks :)

anyway, one thing leads to another and we are fencing with the drum sticks... i've got one, she has the other. then, all of a sudden, sol makes a "bzzzssshhhh" sound.

light saber sound effect!!!

i lost it. i dropped my drum stick and started laughing so hard i couldn't breathe. i think we laughed for about 10 minutes.

so remember... drum sticks are actually light sabers. drummers, be aware of this :)

hehehe

  • it was a brrrzzzzt sound.

besides, it's FUN to mess with star wars geeks.

See, i immediately thought we were in the fight scene from star wars, so i figured for sure that you, the card carrying fanboy, would, too...

er, yes. This is what we are like at home: we play music, and make star wars jokes.

    Brrrzzzzzt!!!!!!!!
    • But who was stronger in the Force?

The first one to mention midi-chlorians gets their asses kicked, too.

      Cheers,

      Ethelred

      • well, the dragon of course. dragons are very force-sensitive creatures. i thought that was pretty self-evident :)

i mean... just do a midichlorian count and it is pretty clear... ooooops... did i just say a dirty word?

        *thunk*

        aaaooowwww

        i sure did
        • *thunk*

          aaaooowwww

          i sure did

I present this as clear evidence that blinder is more sensitive to force.

Dragons are more force-oriented, however, and i have a brick to prove it.

          *ducks and runs away*
      • I was going to point out that you were technically the first to use the M-word.

But then there was a power fluctuation that caused my computer to reboot.

I think the two events may be linked somehow.
  • I work in a music store. There are always drum stick sword fights breaking out! We also like to use mic stands, guitar chord posters, and have been known to stuff each other in large boxes and tape them shut. Hey, we gotta have *something* to do at 8pm when nobody is in the store! :)
    • hehehe, that's funny. what, if i may ask, music store do you work for?

oh, remember, if you are going to *ship* your fellow workers, air holes.

and lastly... i liked your photos. very good eye :)

      • I work for Music and Arts (not sure if there is one in Boston yet), although not much longer. I will be leaving there in December for new ventures in life. Going to move to the coast! New job, new school, new people, living with my boyfriend, it will be grrrrrrreat!. I will miss Music and Arts, but am glad I'm leaving it behind. Music retail is awesome for a while, but gets tiresome. Last Novemeber I decided after way too long to go back to school and finally get a degree. Right now I'm entertaining
  • uhm....where were the ears?
  • is sitting on the little stool. Holding the sticks does you no good if you are laying on the floor looking at the ceiling. ;-)
    • Hah! I bet Neil Peart could play while lying on the floor looking at the ceiling.

      Cheers,

      Ethelred

      • you have no idea just how good neil is until you've seen him in person. and i don't mean, gone to a rush show... i mean... gone into a drum shop where they were having a demonstration and neil peart was part of the tour... and you stand 12 feet away from a kit he is playing... to fully appreciate his beyond god-like ability.

it was about... hmm 17 or so years ago, and the shop/studio i took drum lessons from was holding this demonstration (i think it was sponsored by ludwig... errr... or whatever company nei
        • I've never seen him up close and personal (just through a lot of greenish haze at concerts ;-) ), but I've seen closeups in concert videos and get a pretty good idea...hell, just listen to The Rhythm Method or YYZ or the drums on The Camera Eye (the constantly changing, but still orderly, rhythms there are awesome) and you already get a clue about the man.

Geddy Lee's no slouch, either. Hell, all three of them are incredible.

          Cheers,

          Ethelred

      • You should see Robert Sweet play live some time. The guy is incredible - hitting toms, snares, and cymbals situated behind him whilst blindfolded. The guy is amazing.
  • I tried doing the same thing with my wife. After showing her the rhythm she came up with some mouth mnemonic that sounded like "Bee bo bee beep bo beep bo bo" in the absolutely most adorable way possible. I think I fell off the throne from laughing.
    • meh... rudiments are for wimps!

actually... no they aren't! real men do rudiments! i just hate them. hate them i say! i took drum lessons for close to 8 years... and started *every bloody lesson* working on rudiments.

oh yeah... and then there was fuckin marching band... more gottdamn rudiments. i want to kill them. i won't work on them any more. i won't. you can't make me!!! hahaha!!! lalalalalala!! this me NOT working on rudiments!

      • You still playing with metronome, right? ;)
        • yeah... but only because i record guitars *first*

i don't need it when just playing drums. and the click track is used just as a foundation... i can double or half time it in my head when appropriate when laying down guitar tracks :)

is it a crutch? the click track? perhaps... but i likes it.
  • I used play "piano" on Lynda's back in my sleep.
  • I have to have you all beat. I easily have about 100 pair of drumsticks lying about. BZZZZZZZZZZZZZAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT TTTTTTTTTTTT indeed.
  • by crimes! ( 907248 )
that pretty much made my morning at 6:49
    hahaha :D
