An anonymous reader writes: Researchers in Australia have proposed a system to analyse a user's voice and recognise how they are feeling, long term. The system uses a Deep Neural Network (DNN) to compare the user's tone of voice to those that he or she is talking to, in order to build up long-term data about potential cyclic changes in mood, rather than attempting to recognise whether someone is happy or sad in a particular moment.

I've unfairly had my videos blocked, received copyright strikes for my own materials, and even had my account suspended — and it's impossible to reach anyone at YouTube to complain! No, YouTube isn't biased against you — not voluntarily, anyway. But it could definitely be argued that the copyright legal landscape — particularly in the mainstream entertainment industry — is indeed biased against the "little guys," and Google's YouTube must obey the laws as written. What's more, YouTube exists at the "bleeding edge" of the intersection of technology and law, where there's oh so much that goes bump in the night ...

twickline writes: James Ramey the President of CodeWeavers has posted a short video showing CrossOver running Steam on Android Remix at this years GDC 2016 ( Game Developers Conference ) that was recently held in San Francisco USA.

James also posted on his Facebook account, "Our company, CodeWeavers, with the help of Jide Technology was able to demonstrate Steam running on Android. Gamers will be able to play their PC based games on Android devices. It's cutting edge if nothing else."

"...climate experts familiar with the new research reported in Friday's issue of the journal Science that even though it does not suggest imminent climate catastrophe, it is important because of methane's role as a greenhouse gas. Although carbon dioxide is far more abundant and persistent in the atmosphere, ton for ton atmospheric methane traps at least 25 times as much heat. ... [One scientist] estimated that annual methane emissions from the East Siberian Arctic Shelf total about seven teragrams. (A teragram is 1.1 million tons.) By some estimates, global methane emissions total about 500 teragrams a year. ...about 40 percent is natural, including the decomposition of organic materials in wetlands and frozen wetlands like permafrost."

Wasn't the shuttle planned out in like the 50s? For a 60-year-old (designed, 30-years-old built) spacecraft I think the things did pretty damn good. They were mostly reliable. The major failures that we've seen have been on things such as maintenance.

The only reason Obama ran as Democrat is the Republican party is too racist to accept black people into positions of real power. Instead this scumbag misrepresented and out right lied about his political views. And now we get intellectually incurious, voodoo ecomics conservatard in office again.
Obviously there is no reason to go to the moon, it's not like we need Hellium-3 from there for fusion reasearch. By the time all the math and prototypes of rockets for returning to the moon would be completed, first fusion reactor prototypes would be finished.

From the AP story linked above: "By a 5-4 vote, the court on Thursday overturned a 20-year-old ruling that said corporations can be prohibited from using money from their general treasuries to pay for campaign ads. The decision, which almost certainly will also allow labor unions to participate more freely in campaigns, threatens similar limits imposed by 24 states."

bennyboy64 writes "iTnews reports that Microsoft has begun offering what appears to be a patch for its popular Word software, allowing it to comply with a recent court ruling which has banned the software giant from selling patent-infringing versions of the word processing product. The workaround should put an end to a long-running dispute between Canadian i4i and Redmond, although it has hinted that the legal battle might yet take another turn."
