Journal TechnoLust's Journal: Amazing how much better I feel after karate... 8

I felt tired all week. I got up and came to work at 7:20 every day this week. Being here at 7:30 (even though I have documentation stating we can come in anytime between 6:30 and 9:00 as long as we work 8 hours) is not an unreasonable request. However, I don't do well when I have to wake up before 6am, and because of the commute, I have to get up at 5:45 to get ready and be here by that time. So I've done less per hour in the 8.5 hours/day I've been here than I did per hour in the 9-10 hours/day I was here when I was coming in at 8. But I can't work efficiently when I'm tired, and who am I to question orders. No, I'm not sandbagging because they asked me to come in early. I REALLY AM EXHAUSTED. Monday night I went over to Pat's after we had dinner. I fell asleep on the couch at 8:30, woke up at 10:30 drove home and was in bed by 10:45. I woke up at 5:45 and came to work. I went home and went straight to bed last night, thinking I'd take a 45 minute power nap. I woke up over 2 hours later, almost late for karate. I went to karate feeling groggy, but halfway through the workout, I started feeling great. I stayed an extra hour afterwards to kumate. Chris accidentally hit me in the eye after I scored a point on him. We ordered gear last night, so I should have a Gi, and some head-, hand-, and foot-gear of my own soon. Yay!

We were talking about self defense and being aware of your surroundings at all times. Chris said he's going to help me "train" by coming and punching me while I'm asleep. I said that wasn't a good idea, I was still in the "gun" mindset and not the "karate" mindset when I was asleep. He decided "training" would be confined to waking hours. :-)

I went over to Ashley's last night because I hadn't seen him in forever. He used to be in karate and I'm trying to get him to come to our class. He's off on Tuesday and Wed, so he could come. Anyway, I'm gonna head home and see what's going down tonight. Nicole is coming back from the bahamas sometime today, so if it's anytime soon, I'm going to see if she wants to come over. If she's tired I'll just go eat with Pat and Sydney. Again. Oh, Sydney came to karate last night. She had never been, but we've been teaching her to "kick" the soccer ball. So last night when we were working on kicks, she's over there yelling, "kick, kick, kick!" and kicking her little foot. Too cute. Oh and she came in handy at dinner the other night. Cute little hostess that I honestly can't remember meeting anywhere except at the lake one night seems to know me and calls me by name and runs up and hugs me every time she seems me was working. She was really busy and didn't hug me. So we're about to leave and I picked up Syd and she has hickups. So this hostess comes over and asks if there is anything she can do for her. I said, "Well, I don't know why this works, but for some reason anytime an attractive girl hugs me, she stops hickuping." She looks at me with this "whatever" look, but she hugs me anyway. Syd hickups again. I said, "you must have done it wrong, try again!" She starts laughing and she hugged me again, harder this time and Sydney stopped. I just smiled and walked away. I love that kid! ;-)

  • Are the people who wrote in 6:30 to 9:00 the same people who pulled you aside earlier?

  • I had to drop out in like 6th grade because my parents couldn't afford it anymore. I always mean to get back in though. Master Shon (think Con Air among others, he was the trainer for the fight scenes) has a school in Auburn now. It's still expensive though and I'm going to have 7(!!!) mouth to feed by the end of the year.
  • A guy in my office (my immediate supervisor, actually) just about has me talked into taking fencing lessons. He told me it is 9 lessons, and including equipment rental it's about fifty bucks. After the lessons are over, he says the people that finish are ready for competition. I've always wanted to learn, so this might be just what I'm looking for. I doubt it's the same caliber of workout you're getting in karate, but it would still be comparable I think.
