It's not that scientists haven't been able to reproduce what happened over a million years that engenders skepticism. It's that scientists manage to make a nut and a bolt in the lab, and evolution cheerleaders point to it and say, "And in a million years, it becomes a car! WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW, JESUS BOY?"

I think it's neat that we're getting hints about how life can possibly form from ordinary chemistry. But they're just hints, and it's just a possibility. Hand-waving, story-telling and invoking the million-year magick is not all that enlightening.

Maybe the US will finally join the rest of the industrialized world in actually providing medical care to its citizens, instead of taking the, "find your own care" attitude.

Not bloody likely. At least, not with this bill. But thank you for the kind thoughts. Check in again a a decade or so, maybe we will have managed to drop to third world status by then and even Congress will realize that something drastic needs to be done.

Health care in this country is about the best in the world. What you're lamenting is that the government isn't providing a "free" system to everyone. Never mind that there is no such thing as "free" government anything, why exactly should the government provide this? Should they start handing out "free" cars next? How about more "free" government housing? As a poster above said, this blind faith in the existence of a free lunch is nothing short of astounding. Governments are instituted to protect the rights of individuals. Nothing more. Do you wish to say that "health care" is a "right"? If so, who will be compelled by law to provide this "right" to you?

Running wires to each room in the house would be both cheaper and have sound quality independent of network quality.

Seconded. Stack of amps, either different brands or with the ability to set a remote channel, IR repeater, cross connected via tape outs, and your usual CL2 speaker wire, 14 or 12 gauge. Digital is nice, but unless you're running the same gear everywhere you're going to get something lagging behind.

Alternatively you can go with low power FM over coax, and just have a receiver in each room.

Either way, we're talking surplus yet functional gear
