Can anyone here with a straight face state they truly believe "The View" is a newscast?

ROFL are you suggesting China? China can't even invade a small island directly off its own coast that the US wants. Which is smart, the US is the only nation which has successfully projected power across the oceans in the modern world. It's a daunting logistics problem that only the US has solved and the US was able to do it and slaughter the Chinese more than 20-1 with just 1950s technology.

Wars of the past have not all been settled by manufacturing capacity. Wars are settled, or prevented before they start, by many things because not all wars have the same objective or logistical challenges. It is the Alps which have protected Switzerland while the rest of Europe fell. Geography plays a big role in war, including the failed British and Japanese invasions of the US.

The only competitor on that front is China, which learned manufacturing from the US and was funded by the US. Since China went hostile we've cut off and crippled China economically; meanwhile we've been drastically ramping up domestic manufacturing pipeline back up. Currently the US is strategically positioned like no time before to simply cut off oil to China and then China will have essentially zero ability to wage war let alone fuel the supply lines for a war on the opposite side of the pacific. China certainly has no ability to get drones anywhere near the US mainland.

But China's manufacturing is at full capacity. The US demonstrated its capability to shift our entire economic and manufacturing pipeline into war mode during WW2, we aren't even remotely close to our full manufacturing capacity.

China has no capability to win a military war with the US, let alone invade the US. They've already failed in challenging the US economically. China has spent the last few decades poisoning the world [including an internal faction here in the US] against the United States with socialist propaganda and while that information war isn't settled the tide has begun shifting against them with the capitalist and patriotic right taking back power in the US and starting to take back power in the UK/Europe.

It's easy...aside from statistically RARE genetic foul ups.....we have male and female. Easy peasy.

There is virtually no parallel between an invasion of Ukraine or Ukraine's response which parallels a potential invasion of the US beyond the word 'invasion.'

If anything I'd say the US thwarting a Russian invasion by proxy with a half-hearted effort in Ukraine says a great deal about how ridiculous it would be to suggest anyone is likely to be able to invade the US mainland.

But everyone has multiple personalities, they just identify them all as part of the same whole. "But but they have the same memory!" Or do we just PERCEIVE it as the same because when I stop to remember things on two different days I can sometimes recall details/events on one day I couldn't on the other and we ALL have memories which can proven to not match what cameras record, especially over time.

The only thing connecting you in one mood from you in a different mood where you 'feel differently about things' is the completely baseless PERCEPTION that the two are the same person. Really, we don't know that we had a yesterday, only that we wake up remembering one.

And have you ever been of 'mixed minds' with two conflicting opinions on a topic? One stream of thought leans one way, another tugs back in another direction... like that little voice that keep trying to rationalize eating a dessert or keeping a 'harmless' secret from your spouse. This might seem like pointless nitpicking but if you are trying to go from a chatting and intelligent neural network to a general humanlike intelligence these distinctions matter.

I have ADHD. I call this 'autopilot' and it's essentially how I handle most of life. For example, active thought about something as silly as the state of a light in a room each time I enter/exit would be MUCH too costly. I'd forget where I was going or lose my place in whatever actual significant thing I'm working on/thinking about if I did that. I program my autopilot and reflexively turn the light on every time I enter and exit... at first I likely turn off lights on people with new behavior like this but the network is usually responsive to training/feedback over time; especially when the behavior is new.

There are quirks though. When I used to drive to work I'd sometimes find myself there if I started out going to a different destination in the same direction because I navigated with autopilot or I'd catch myself after making a wrong turn toward the more common destination. And at one point I lived with my mother-in-law in a building with a separate laundry room and anytime I went through the door while she in the laundry room I'd lock her out. She'd swear I was doing it on purpose but it was a 10yr or so old autopilot reflex I had to program as an adult when I moved from the country to the city and my New Yorker wife freaked the hell out when I didn't lock the door.

He also makes the robots, though so far he's keeping them all rather than selling them as he's indicated he intends.

The US is basically invasion proof... unless we are so fscking stupid that we fund the building, development, and import a fscking Chinese robot army for them.

Statistics do....

We track what jobs earn what...how many people get accepted in to what jobs on graduation....so, we only offer student loans to degrees that give the student the absolute highest chance of getting a good paying job, one what will allow them to pay off the loans in a reasonable manner.

From what I understand of the guy I'm not a fan and likely would like to see him nailed.

However, in this case...I don't think the govt has a case against him.

If they never got into the phone, how do they know there was evidence on there? How could they proved he wiped evidence if they had no clue what might be on there?

It also sounds like at the time, he wasn't under arrest? He had asked for a lawyer and had been refused?

He's not under any compulsion to give a password is he? They had the phone, nothing forced the authorities to trust anything he said....they could have tried forensics like they'd do if they had a safe and tried a safecracker to get in if the suspect didn't want to give the combination.

I just don't see the case they have....or if they do it has implications far wider for common citizens and their privacy.

You think only people that make millions pay back student loans?

No, please be serious.

BUT...we do have an incredible number of students that can NOT pay off their loans...hence all this call to have the US Tax payers pay their loans for them ie. loan forgiveness.

We need to quit giving out student loans and scholarships to people seeking worthless degrees....where these kids get into significant debt for fields that lead to jobs that do not pay enough for them to get that loan paid off....basically they become indentured servants for much of their adult life in a manner of speaking.

Let's met out student loans only to those pursuing degrees that are in fields that at least give them a fighting chance to earn enough money upon graduation and actually secure good jobs.

If you want to study underwater basket weaving, then find, do it on your own dollar, but no loaning of money to take worthless classes that do not need to meaningful jobs that earn $$ enough to pay the loans off AND lead to a happy level of livelihood and lifestyle.

Sure I do....just like some people become multi-million dollar NBA basketball players, or earn millions doing Only Fans.

I believe that % of people after that goal that attain it are incredibly small.

It's fair to say that small models are far less useful than large ones. They have some use, but ultimately are unsuitable for many tasks.

When you say "small models"....what size range are you talking about that you tested?

Well one thing that Apple is showing with their M chips....is that the shared memory structure is VERY capable of allowing individuals to run pretty large local models.....bypassing the need for most people to pay for Frontier model access on the clouds.

This also allows people to keep more privacy options as that their data needn't leave their private hardware at home.

I think growth in this area may lead to part of a bubble crash of the larger AI landscape.

This is already in the hands of of knowledgeable tinkerers....it won't be long till it is a click install app for the masses that have the hardware and Apple is already making that at prices MUCH less than buying NVIDA GPUs and windows.....

I don't know if this was by design or happy accident for Apple, but they got the leap on everyone with this.....we're just now seeing competitors come out with small AI designed boxes with this type of shared memory structure set up.
