Submission + - Verizon sued by AT&T over 3G TV ad (wsj.com) 1

Fred IV writes: "In a filing, AT&T said the Verizon Wireless commercials mislead consumers about the scope of its coverage by using maps with large amounts of blank space. The white space indicates the lack of a 3G network, but AT&T contends that consumers see the blank spots as a complete lack of coverage. The company added that it had complained to Verizon Wireless, and minor changes had been made to the spots.

"By communicating that AT&T customers have no coverage in large parts of the country, Verizon is misleading the public about an essential component of the services AT&T offers," the lawsuit said.

Verizon Wireless dismissed the lawsuit.

"The suit doesn't have any merits," said spokesman Jim Gerace. "Our ads clearly explain that non-3G coverage is available elsewhere.

LyX is nice, and for my algorithms HW it was essential, it just had symbols that even Word 2007 didn't have, (Word 2003's equation editor is a joke), and once I learned the keyboard shortcuts it was a lot faster too. Word 2007 actually uses many of the same shortcuts (when in equation editor mode) as Lyx (it seemed to me at the time that MS was trying to make a poor copy. and did a half way decent job of it given that Word is not a typesetting program). Windows 7 has a math pad, lacking a wacom or other reasonable input device I was unable to adequately test it. However given the Macbook Pro LyX is probably the best answer because LyX has a Mac distribution.

This is a common myth. Just because you rear end someone doesn't mean that you are automatically at fault. In the situation you described above, the other driver would have clearly been at fault.

I would argue that laws should represent the views of the majority, and I think it's quite clear that the majority of people have little to no problem with piracy. It is a victimless crime.

You gotta be careful with that line of thinking. If the majority thinks computer nerds should be shot on site do you really want that to be the law?

Laws must always take into count the minority and strike some sort of balance where as many "people" as possible have the most freedoms allowable. There is no perfection to be had and there will always be those fringe cases that unsettle us but WE CAN surely do better not only here in the U.S. but in all countries.

1. Hulu is an ad supported service. The people that pay for the ads don't want to pay for people that can not buy their stuff. It doesn't make a lot of sense for Ford to pay to advertise a car to people that can not buy it.
2. Don't blame the content producers for your lag blame you networks. You networks will wait to see if a US show is a hit before they bring it to your country. Only makes sense that way they don't buy the shows that suck. The producers make a lot more money from selling the shows to your networks than from Hulu even if they got sponsers that wanted to pay for the ads.
So can't you buy the shows on iTunes? I mean if you want to pay for them and they are available then that is a sound option.

Ever tried Jarnal?

It feels kludgy, I'll admit, but it does get the job done.

Note, you probably want to know how to get rid of the lined paper. Intuitively enough, it is under Format, Paper and Background (you'd probably have found it without my help). Change "Lined" to "Plain" and apply to all pages.

Note also, you probably want to know how to open a PDF to annotate it. This one isn't intuitive at all, but you have to go to File, Open Background. (The PDF is opened as a background image. Unfortunately this means you cannot edit, only annotate.)

To save, either Export to PDF or Print as PDF – I'm entirely clueless as to whether there is any difference between the two or why there are two options to do the same thing.

As a bonus, you can also download the zip, unzip to a flash drive, and run it portably.

The unfortunately corollary from this is if you have an ugly girlfriend/wife, you probably resemble a bulldog's arse.

That selection criteria works both ways, so sayeth Jimmy Soul in 1963:

If you wanna be happy
For the rest of your life,
Never make a pretty woman your wife,
So from my personal point of view,
Get an ugly girl to marry you.

A pretty woman makes her husband look small
And very often causes his downfall.
As soon as he marries her
Then she starts to do
The things that will break his heart.
But if you make an ugly woman your wife,
You'll be happy for the rest of your life,
An ugly woman cooks her meals on time,
She'll always give you peace of mind.

Don't let your friends say
You have no taste,
Go ahead and marry anyway,
Though her face is ugly,
Her eyes don't match,
Take it from me she's a better catch.

Also... It looks like something a mildly talented person could do in under an hour in Photoshop.

Which is all Shepard Fairey really has to offer the world. All of his best "work" is borrowed more or less directly from another artist's source materials with little to no modification aside from his brand name.

It may be that Duchamp and Warhol paved the way towards the act of selection being defined as a creative act, but I find it difficult to think of Fairey in the same light. His work isn't breaking barriers, presenting irony, or forcing us to rethink our interpretation of the source material he chooses to use. It is blatantly commercial and self-serving, calling attention to the Fairey brand without adding any value or doing any creative work as part of the process.

Some combination of knowledge + ability to execute + ability to adapt is probably a better definition. Your armchair quarterback isn't skilled at American football because he is unable to execute. An amateur with both knowledge and ability may not reach pro levels of play because of an inability to think on his feet and adapt to changes on the field. In the same way, someone in an MMO may know what all of their abilities do, but their level of comparative skill may suffer because they aren't able to link skills together quickly enough or aren't able to think tactically and make adjustments in the middle of play.
