Comment It's Mushroom Cloud Research, not computer cloud (Score -1, Offtopic) 158

This is the DOE. They mainly work on nukes, and if they're experimenting with cloud computing, it's not because they're trying to do commercial or academic work into cloud computing, it's because they're trying to find powerful and cost-effective ways to get the computing horsepower they need to work on more nukes, just as when they work with supercomputers, it's not just because they're "Imagining what they can do with a Cray", it's because they're trying to solve problems that are really that big.

So, like, back off man, they're scientists!

Or don't back off,. because they're developing weapons as well as civilian power applications, but don't confuse tool-building with pork barrel.

Considering that the jury are bound by the legalese in their every day life, I would hope they understand it to the letter. If they do happen to encounter something they are not familiar with during the trial, it should be encouraged for them to become more familiar with what is going on. It is their duty as a citizen to know and understand the law, after all.

Ignorance of legalese is not required to judge trials on fact alone. It is quite easy for a normally functioning brain to separate the two concepts.

Suggestion to anyone who is travelling overseas with a phone on roaming mode. Turn off ALL internet access. It will save you hundreds!

Just limit yourself to wi-fi access. There have been enough horror stories about huge data roaming bills, but it sounds like the message still hasn't been passed on to everyone.

It's funny. Laugh.

Student Sues University Because She's Unemployable 1251

I'm always amazed at how little variation there really is in energy production. Really there are only two sources of energy here on earth:

-Solar
-Nuclear

Third is inertial: Tidal power, which comes from slowing the Earth's rotation. Some of the energy goes into raising the moon's orbit (or the Earth/Moon system's orbit around the sun) and the rest moves water and air in ways that can be tapped.
