Monday’s walkout is the latest sign that pro-union sentiment is spreading throughout Amazon’s ranks — this time at a uniquely vulnerable point in its logistics network. Amazon depends heavily on a few air hubs to keep millions of packages moving every day, which means the effect of a strike or work stoppage at any of those facilities would have a greater impact than a similar action at a regional warehouse.

Even as Amazon, the nation’s second-largest private employer, pits its weight against organized labor — trying, for example, to get the results of the Amazon Labor Union’s historic election victory in Staten Island thrown out — the walkout in California demonstrates how workers are continuing to independently organize around the country.

Long-term plans call for tripling the size of the project.

If you're familiar with how Genius works with song lyrics and other material, you've got the general idea. Indeed, Flourish's annotated take on Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech looks similar to a Genius user's annotated take on the same 1963 MLK speech, albeit without Genius's crowdsourced explanation capabilities (or ads).

So, what would you think about the use of similar text annotation features in other places, such as news sites, e-commerce sites, and — dare I even suggest this in jest — Slashdot?

Now a new security bypass has been discovered for some of their equipment, which has revealed that it is in general based on outdated versions of Linux and Windows CE.

Carried out by Sick Codes, the complete attack involves attaching hardware to the PCB inside a touchscreen controller, and ultimately produces a root terminal.

In the bargain and as a result, the question is being raised about JD's GPL compliance.

'Oxford Health Foundation Trust, has declared a critical incident over the outage and has told staff the patient notes system may be down for longer than three weeks.

'In an email to staff, Oxford Health Foundation Trust said: “The cyber-attack targeted systems used to refer patients for care, including ambulances being dispatched, out-of-hours appointment bookings, triage, out of hours care, emergency prescriptions and safety alerts. It also targeted the finance system used by the Trust.'

The question I have is why it should take so long to restore the system from backups; 'weeks' is an unreasonable period. Anyone any thoughts?

China has responded sharply to Nancy Pelosi's anticipated visit to Taiwan next month, according to the Reuters news agency.

According to sources cited by Reuters, China has sent a stronger warning this time around.

The Chinese government personally informed the US administration of its response and may have even issued a military threat.

The State Department and the National Security Council of the White House have not yet released a statement on this topic.

To put pressure on the Democratic Republic of Taiwan to accept Chinese sovereignty, China has intensified military installations and activity in the South China Sea around Taiwan.

An anonymous reader writes: Canada recently instituted a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which aims at paying respect and honoring the First Nations, Inuit and Métis Survivors and lost children of residential schools. The new National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, to be held on September 30th is one of the 94 recommendations that stemmed from the 2015 Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report on calls to action. The National Day was made official early summer of 2021 in the wake of several discoveries of mass graves close to residential schools that were made public. It is probably safe to say that everyone in Canada was left at least speechless, if not ashamed when the horrible news came out in 2021. Read more....
