Comment are there ads on WhatsApp? (Score 1) 92

a few years ago, Facebook was considering putting ads into WhatsApp. Based on that fuckery alone, there are worlds of differences in how Facebook looks at WhatsApp.app, and how Apple approaches Messages.app.

However, Zuckerberg does have a point about cross platform compatibility. And that's why I use Signal. There's no fucking reason for me to go near Meta products, but then again I've never been their target audience.

the global market cap for cryptocurrency is estimated at $1.8 billion USD. by comparison, US bailed out banks in 2008 for $700 billion, and Trump's Covid-19 bailout package was over $2 trillion. Crypto isn't even in the same ballpark, yet we can see the scapegoat narrative unfold. the next hyperinflation/housing crisis/bank failure/stock market crash will be blamed on cryptocurrrency most certainly.

i have no idea how long before the black box is mandatory and permanently attached to the car, but the MK7 golf can be hacked relatively easily for privacy.

iCloud storage

No mention of this in the article but this is the only nagware i see regularly (sometimes multiple times a day). i've disabled apple music+, the music store, avoid their News app, and don't use their TV partially because of the persistence of those nags.

I've found good alternatives for things like third party cloud file storage (e.g. Owncloud), and Overcast has been a great replacement for whatever apple is doing for podcasts these days, but i have to use icloud storage for apple's messages and notes, and that means i can't get away from that persistent icloud storage nag.
