You need to define what you mean when you say you've 'been hacked'. What evidence do you have, what was lost or changed?

What makes you think your router is somehow to blame?

90% sure he got malware after downloading an unsigned executable ;)

Assuming that signed executables are safe is just a way to invite problems.
