MidnightBSD is a small group of dedicated developers who strive to make an operating system that everyone can use freely. Available for x86 and AMD64 as well as Virtual Machines. Although the FreeBSD project has created a reliable server operating system, it is often not usable or performant on the desktop. Desktop users should be able to customize scheduling, allocation of resources and security settings. Many of the BSD projects can be used on older hardware or servers. Some distributions of FreeBSD have a nice graphical user interface but suffer from a server-centric design underneath the hood. We didn't fork FreeBSD out of spite, but rather to provide a good starting point. -

FreeLibreCAD is a free Open Source CAD program for Windows, Apple, and Linux. Our dedicated community of contributors, developers, and users provides support and documentation at no cost. LibreCAD was originally created to integrate CAM capabilities into QCad's community version. This can be used with a Mechmate CNC router. QCad CE was based on the old Qt3 library and needed to be ported to Qt4 to get additional enhancements. This was the birth of CADuntu. The project was initially known as CADuntu for a few months before the community decided that the name was too limiting. After much discussion with the community and some research on other names, CADuntu was renamed LibreCAD. The task of porting the rendering engine from Qt3 to Qt4 proved difficult. LibreCAD was dependent on the Qt3 support libraries initially. Rallaz, our master developer, completed the Qt4 porting during the 2.0.0 series development. LibreCAD is now free from Qt3 except in the 1.0.0 series. -

Raw and self-install allow for customization via combustion or manually in an image after it has been written to the disk. A real-time kernel is also available. MicroOS can be used in VMs that run on either Xen, or KVM. A Raspberry Pi or another system-on-chip hardware might use the preconfigured image along with the combustion functionality to boot. -

The console system must have the minimum requirements to be able to start. It does not include a graphical environment. This is great if you are an experienced user who wants to customize your installation for a specific purpose such as a file server, web server, etc.
