Journal CleverNickName's Journal: New @ WWdN 28

People ask me all the time if I'll link their site, or if I'll link a site they think is cool, or something like that.

Some other people occasionally send me 10 bucks or so to offset the costs of keeping the website up and running.

So I figured, whynot marry the two?

Texads are now available on WWdN. I get about 500,000 unique visitors a month, and this test ad I've been running has done almost 900 pageviews in less than 45 minutes.

So it's just 10 bucks / 2500 impressions. If you're interested, head on over to my site and set your phasers to buy.

Heh. I like talking about setting phasers to do things. I once said to a waiter, "Set your phasers to 'refill!'"

He looked at me like I was crazy.

Speaking of crazy people, when I was in San Diego, the majority of people in our hotel on Thursday night were ultra-fundie xtian people, with their judgemental t-shirts and big ass crosses on chains.

Anne and I got into the elevator (i started to type 'enterprise. wtf is that about?). A girl rushed into the elevator, and I said, "where are you going," as I pushed the button for the 6th floor.

"Six," she said.

"Oh! Six!" I said, "That's the floor that's sweeping the nation!"

"Damn, Wheaton, you are a funny motherfucker," I thought.

She put her hand on her hip, and proudly displayed her "Not perfect, just saved" T-shirt, and said, "Exactly what is that supposed to mean?!"

"Uhh . . . it means that it's where all the cool kids are staying?" I said.

"Oh. Okay," she said.

Anne and I shared an unspoken "WTF?!" as the elevator stopped on our floor.

I'm not perfect or saved, baby. So suck it.

  • What is a ultra-fundie xtian people?

    • Oh, wait.....I just figured it out. Yeah, we had lots of those back in Texas, but here in Utah we have Mormons. And this would include some ultra-fundie mrmn people who carry around triple whammies instead of crosses.

  • If memory serves me, your birthday is coming up, want anything nerdly from the /. crowd?
    • How about a nine dollar bill with RMS on it? That nerdly enuff for ya? Good part is, you'd have to give them away, for Free.
  • Heh. That's okay. If you're ever in the Detroit area in the middle/end of Februrary (NOT recommended. It's cccollld then ;) at the Northfield Hilton, you'll find most of the people staying in your hotel are a bunch of us dirty hippy pagans, complete with wierd-ass T-shirts and big pentacles on silver chains. We're not perfect or saved either. ;)

That's the funniest shit I've heard all week. Thanks, Will.
  • The floor that is sweeping the nation

I would say she has reason to be concerned, The nation is both incredibly large (9,629,091 sq km) and incredibly dirty. The amount of time required to sweep the entire nation would be staggering, even if you had an entire floor of people helping you.

OK I am gonna go slap myself for writing that now.

  • Hey Wil!

On the chance that you read the replies here on /. I'll ask why it is that wilwheaton.net blocks the IPs from work? It's in the 66.222.83.242 - 66.222.83.254 range IIRC. I sent email, but I didn't add the PGP thingy whatever it is that you require so it may have gone by unnoticed.

OBTW, I've linked to your site from mine and I'm not asking for a penny from you. So suck it!
    • Although I am not blocked from the Wheaton site and do not link it from mine... I would offer a link "trade" of sorts. I could guarantee him a solid 3 click throughs per month...

somehow, I don't see him taking my offer...
  • I'm not perfect or saved, baby. So suck it.

Will, you know you have to turn that into a T-shirt.
  • You know, I had some judgemental t-shirts. A little bucket of bleach took care of that problem. Some people might say that it was shirt abuse, but they're living much happier lives as rags. And as we all know the Bible says, "All your righteous deeds are as filthy rags", so they had it coming to them. I suppose I could have put them more in their place by quoting Jules from Pulp Fiction*, "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Bless
    • (Why do I feel that word should be spelled and said "evalator"? I must be insane")

Why did I first read that as evaluator?
    • Speaking of which, Quentin Tarintino's coming out with a new movie called "Kill Bill". Not sure what I think from the trailer yet... but I like all his other stuff.

Actually, I'd heard that he was coming out with two movies from Kill Bill, but when I checked it out it turns out the latest rumour is he's making four [webds.de]

      • Following that link trail, I saw a description that said it was a "kung-fu explotation film" and would be "Tarantino's big comeback film". Seems to me that everyone is doing kung-fu, even Owen Wilson... not usually Taratino's style to copy the genre of the day. And the trailer looked a little like a parody of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". Two 2 and a half hour films - he's following in the path of the LOTR and Matrix films there, filming and doing postproduction, and then doing a delayed release. When w
