Journal CleverNickName's Journal: I'm off to OSCon! 18

On Thursday, I'll be at the OSCon up in Portland. I'll be mostly running around, getting my geek on, but I'm also dong a couple of organized book signing events.

  1. Thursday, 1:00pm: book-signing at the convention bookstore in the exhibit hall.
  2. Thursday night, 7:00-9:00pm: book-signing at Powell's Technical Books.

At both events, they're letting me read from Dancing Barefoot, and I'll be signing copies when I'm finished. So if any of my fellow Slashdotters are out at OSCon, drop by and say "hello, world! \n"

Actually, that's one of the most Freudian Freudian Typo I've seen in quite some time (what are you going to do with some books?).

That aside -- sounds cool. I won't be able to go. Have a good time.

    Take care,
    Blain

  • I wasn't planning to buy the book, but what the heck, if you're signing it, I shouldn't pass up the opportunity.

Wasn't planning to attend the conference either, but I really ought to get out of the house. Maybe I'll peruse the exhibits and stuff. I can't afford anything that costs money, but that's free.
  • Hey Wil (Score:1, Offtopic)

I know this is off-topic, but when you were working with "Deanna Troi", was she as hot in that purple jumpsuit in person as she looks on TV? Thanks.
  • As I live no where near it, unforutnately and don't have any travel time left for the year. :(

Do you plan on making a trip to the midwest? Detroit, Chicago, or maybe Cleveland?

If not, will you sign copies of books if we send them to you? One of my other favorite writers will do this... ;)

  • between this and the fact that i read chuck palahniuk's "fugitives and refugees" in its entirety last night, its almost enough to make me wish i was in portland.
  • getting my geek on
I like that... I may have to use it.

Portland, eh? Too bad I'm nowhere near there. Be sure and let me know if you ever do a book signing in TN. ;-)

  • That's like...the...worst...temptation...EVER.

I promised my wife I wouldn't go into Powell's Technical anymore, because I tend to put us in massive debt and load the truck up with books, but I think it's worth the trip.

I wonder if there'll be copies of your book on sale, there? Or at the regular Powell's down the street? I'm actually really looking forward to reading it.

    • There are folks in SF fandom who plan their annual vacations around a trip to Powell's. It's probably just as well for the state of my already-overgrown library that I live much too far from Portland!!

    • According to the conference web site, there's a 20% discount on everything at Powell's Technical Books Thursday evening from 7pm to 9pm. Might need to be registered for the convention, rather than just walking in off the street, but registration for just the exhibit hall is free (I just registered last night online).
  • Wil,

I've _really_ enjoyed Dancing Barefoot, and have started passing it around my family. Everyone who's read it so far has thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Soon, it will be going out to friends (hey, it generates word of mouth, hopefully some of them will go out and buy it too).

But the real question is, will you be coming to New York for a book signing? You know you want to! And I know I want my book signed, damnit =]

Although there were a lot of people around waiting for their signatures, Wil, you took the opportunity to have a quick chat with just about anyone who wanted one. I thought that was pretty nice of you. I've been reading your blog/site for quite awhile and obviously own a copy of DB. It's good to see that you're a nice guy in real life.

I can't say it enough: Wil, you rock. I wish you success in all your endevours.

PS: I also met Eric S. Raymond at Wil's book signing. Two famous/cool people in one day. Neato keen!
