This seems like a good place to ask - what's with these 503s on certain articles? I click Read More... or whatever and it 503s me. Usually when I'm logged in.
So using https will stop this? Why did they start it in the first place?
Actually I'm not on slashdot's staff or anything so I'm not really sure why the 503s. I just get a boatload of mod points sometimes (excellent karma) when I don't comment too prolifically. I used five or so on you, but they were comments worthy of being modded up, anyway.
It seems it's far easier to help someone get karma back than to make them lose it -- I've been modbombed several times without noticing any hit in karma (like fifteen comments in a row being modded down that obviously shouldn't have been),
It only started happening recently, if I was being really paranoid I'd say they turned on some anti-trolling "flag" round about the first time I published a good troll (well, I think it was!). First I was modded to hell, not just on those posts (some will be archived!) and since then I've had trouble posting, because of those 503a, even after my karma returned to positive!
