Journal BarbaraHudson's Journal: "Special Days" - BFD - Nothing Changes. 3
Today is International Women's Day. And tomorrow will be no different, same as yesterday wasn't.
Same thing for all the other "special days", "special weeks", and "special months".
World Laughter Day? (jan 10). Not even funny.
Data Privacy Day (jan 28) - now THAT is something to laugh at.
Propose Day? (Feb 8). I propose not.
World Day of Social Justice? (feb 20). Redundant - we have that every friday here on slashdot.
Why not also have Political Correctness day on the same date?
Thinking Day (feb 22). Only having one day a year to think? Well, that explains everything!
Doctor Seuss Day? (Mar 2) I d not want it in a car. I do not want it in a bar. I do not want it with green eggs and ham. I do not want it with a ton of spam. I do not want it with a mouse. I do not want it with a house. I do not want Dr Seuss Day, so just f*ck off and go away!
International Louie Louie Day (April 11). Okay, I'll give you that one.
World Book Day (apr 23)? Not long for this world
World International Property Day (apr 26). Uncle Disney must LOVE that one!
Towel Day and Geek Pride Day are both may 25. Coincidence? I think not!
Autistic Pride Day (jun 18). I won't even go there
Then there's UFO day, World Population Day (no thanks, we already have too many), Pi Approximation Day, International Left-Handers Day (sounds sinister), World Mosquito Day (bug OFF!), Women's Equity Day (what, are we supposed to celebrate inequality?), Skyscraper Day (8 days before 9/11), International Day of Peace (good luck with that one), World Vegetarian Day (no thanks, you can keep your tofu), Mole Day (nothing to do with animals or skin growths), World Toilet Day and International Men's Day (on the same day, of course), Bacon Day, International Hummus Day
And there are plenty more. Why? To increase awareness? We're pretty much already of Bacon, Hummus, Frogs Legs, Intellectual Property, etc. Special days don't change anything unless there's follow-up throughout the year. Bell Canada's Let's Talk week during Mental Health Week actually extends for months before and after, lots of public events, tv commercials, and internet campaigns helping to reduce the stigma of mental illness and make it more understandable to the general public as well as encouraging those who are struggling to come out of their dark places.
The rest, because of their limited duration, are out of sight, out of mind the day after. They're just "feel-good" days.
I see nothing wrong with Bacon Day (Score:1)
A moment of silence for our little piggies...
And Happy Love Day [youtube.com]!
Day-Oh Day-Oh! (Score:2)
Don't forget Doris Day ....if I don't stop now its gonna to be a long Day's journey into night....
Otis Day and the Knights (Louie, Louie)
King Sunny Ade (ah-Day)
Dog Day Afternoon,
Or worse still, Groundhog Day, again, and again....
