Rumors of my death were premature

  • Here are your JEs [slashdot.org]... All your comments are still there and everywhere...

I am surprised it took you this long. I thought it was something I said, and you made a 'resolution'..

    • I had some confusion with a dummy Google+ login that I had no idea would generate a new account.
      • You don't have a 'new' account here. Only your name was changed. Everything is intact. As far as I know that has never happened before. The name is supposed to be indelible forever.

Ah, well, you're back. The universe is in balance once again.

        • No, seriously: it made a new account. I'm afraid to click the Google+ and get whisked off to the cornfield again, but the UID was ~2500000.
  • I can't for the life of me figure out why this happened to you in particular. It doesn't seem to be just the fact that your name used to have two non-adjacent underscores, either; notice for example that there is someone on my freaks list [slashdot.org] who has two non-adjacent underscores in their name and things seem to be working out just fine for them. I did bring it up in an email to support@slashdot.org as I already had a discussion open with them about the previous login problems I was having, but that doesn't me
    • Me, either. Nor did they show up to take the place of the spaces I never expected to be allowed to have in the first place. :)

      • I have an underscore in my name here for the same reason. I don't recall why I ended up setting up my gmail address with a period instead.
        • Must be another "improvement." Same as now, when you click on the search icon, you get the firehose instead of search.
          • Meh, the search never worked any ways. They could have improved on that with a link to goatse. The closest to functional it ever was (in my recollection anyways) was several years ago when they let google manage the search for them while they "fixed" the slashdot search. Unfortunately they eventually finished "fixing" it and now we're back to a completely dysfunctional system.
      • Zardoz smiled on you, Zontar.
    • I had clicked "login with Google+" and added another account in the two million range, and had no interest in starting from scratch.
Whatever they were doing to implement oAuth was, apparently, yet another /. "success story". But which I mean "utter train wreck".
      • That is really odd. I expect you noticed that the account with the underscores shows up as non-existant currently. FWIW I was wondering if your absence was because you were likely trying to log in with the underscores and being rejected. I don't know how a google+ login would have resulted in your account name being mangled, I always perceived the account names here as being more or less set in stone in relation to the UID.
        • Their whole oAuth transition didn't make much sense.

I always perceived the account names here as being more or less set in stone in relation to the UID.

It's clearly just a field in the user table.

Old programmers never die, they just hit account block limit.

Working...
