Ah, residence hall life. I am lucky to have my own room, but still I can't seem to get dorm life right. I don't think I could if I were to live here all five years at university. I may have a room in my flat one day designated as a "dormitory room simulator," where I will continue to devote my time to figuring out the secret of comfortable, home-like dorm living. Sounds like something IKEA should try...
As I look up from my reading of "Finland in the New Europe" by Max Jakobson, I marvel at what a shithole I let this place turn into. I haven't even made my bi-weekly pathetic attempt to get the place "inspection clean" in a month.
Then, like one of those whisps of nostalgia that INTPs are prone to, it hits me: In three weeks this room will no longer be my home. My posters will be off the walls, the beds configured back into bunks (or racks, if you're militarily inclined), and all the furniture moved into it's default configuration (which I actually don't know since my former roommate beat me here and rearranged everything). Then, when the room is completely except for my computer and German flag, I will close the door, put on the German national anthem, remove the flag from the wall, and secure it in a bag. Then, there will be no indication that I ever lived here.
One day, be it years from now, I will discover how to turn a small room into a home. This has been my quest since my second year of university, and I believe that it is an elusive and worthwhile goal, even if I don't reap the benefits of my eventual discovery.
