Journal GMontag's Journal: Conservatives in the Mist

Wow, a good bit of stuff (for me at this hour) to cover since last night.

Comments by a couple of "new generation" Slashdotters (the ones with zillion digit user numbers) shook a memory out of a Jonah Goldberg story from 2003. I am pretty sure that I have read it before, but must not have been into it at the time. Lots of Goldberg posts by me came up in this search, but did not find Conservatives in the Mist.

Note: since the Eve Fairbanks date story got Instalanched, plus posted with a "regular" e-mail in a couple of blogs, I have gotten interesting not-the-usual comments about the story. Also, I did spam the writers and editors at The National Review , with no response, several days before the Instalanching. Thought the story was right up Jonah's alley.

I swear Conservatives in the Mist looks familiar, in words, certainly familiar in recent experience, but I can not for the life of me understand how it did not make it into my journal.

The following passage stands out:

Fine, fine, though Mitchell would hardly be the first conservative, young or otherwise, to have been Jedi-mind-tricked by a liberal trying to use him -- how do you think charmers like Jane Mayer and Bob Woodward can afford their summer homes? But then Colapinto wrote me again. He politely explained that "on reasoned reflection" it probably was an oversight and how his follow-up revealed NRO really is "crucial reading" for young conservatives, etc. His initial snarkiness was the result of frustration with other critics of his article. It was a decent and honest and fair note, and while it inconveniently bled out the bile I was going to use for this column, I'm glad he wrote it. His book was excellent and when I saw him at a panel at the Independent Women's Forum he seemed like an entirely decent guy. I take him at his word that he was doing his best to be an honest reporter and I think the article reflects that

Why? Because Jedi-mind-trick works both ways with Leftists. No, I do not mean that we try to do it to them, they try to do it to us and succeed in doing it to themselves.

Just dangle a baby-shit green 1972 Dodge Rallye Charger in front of them, say the word hydrogen and *poof* it is a Greenpeace hybrid!

Happy Hour

Another happy hour at The Capital Grille last night and I found myself sitting next to my physician, without realizing I was for at least 2 long-neck Buds. She told me that was a reminder that I was overdue for a visit. I told her that it was because she keeps changing her hair.

She was celebrating her birthday and they invited me for the party, since I was already sitting next to the party anyway.

A new running joke with the staff is "I didn't recognize you in a suit", seems the Eve Fairbanks Mr. Right article has gotten around there too, how I would never know :)

But, that inside joke required explanation to the Doctor, so I went through a short version. When I mentioned the reaction by many of my women friends she said that was not a normal trait and I must know some violent women. Sometimes my doctor puzzles me.

Casual Friday

Ah, it is casual Friday, need to break out the oversized polo and black stompers, LOL!

Note: the "Hydrogen Powered Jeep" story has numerous intentional misspellings, but I forgot why I added more than my natural amount.
