Rachel Aliene Corrie from Olympia, Washington, was an American peace activist and diarist. She was killed by an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) armored bulldozer in a combat zone in Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. She had come to Gaza as part of her senior-year college assignment to connect her home town with Rafah in a sister cities project. While there, she had engaged with other ISM activists in efforts to prevent the Israeli army's demolition of the homes of Palestinian people (allegedly to eliminate tunnels used by terrorists to smuggle weapons from Egypt into Gaza).

Less than two months after her arrival, on March 16, 2003, Corrie was killed during an Israeli military operation after a three-hour confrontation between two bulldozers and eight ISM activists.

The exact nature of her death and the culpability of the bulldozer operator are disputed, with fellow ISM protestors saying that the Israeli soldier operating the bulldozer deliberately ran over Corrie, and Israeli government eyewitnesses saying that it was an accident since the bulldozer operator could not see her [sic].

No action was taken by the IDF against the soldier driving the armored bulldozer.

I an pretty certain that the only reason the world knows of this atrocity is because Rachel (may she rest in peace) was an American citizen. If it were a Palestinian family, they'd just have been just another group of numbers, terror sympathizers killed while Israel was trying to protect the peace.

What other side? Most of the areas claimed for the State of Palestine have been occupied by Israel since 1967 in the aftermath of the Six-Day War, with the Palestinian Authority exercising socio-political administration since 1993 in limited areas (read concentration camps). Despite several dozen UN resolutions demanding the creation of the state of Palestine as a matter of urgency, each single one of those resolutions has been ignored by Israel and instead of returning the areas that technically belong to the state of Palestine, more settlements are created each year, no wonder the Palestinians fire rockets at them. Also, how does the American government justify/demand the imposition of sanctions against any other state when they veto any proposed sanctions against Israel for violating/disregarding UN resolutions is beyond me.

If i remember correctly, in one of the previous conflicts, IDF troops actually did what you described in your hypothetical example (I believe it was a toddler/teenager who'd thrown a stone at a tank) so IMHO, as poorer your own example Israel I'd the war criminal

Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, laptop would regularly take 10-15 minutes to restart or shutdown, the fingerprint reader locked me on the login screen in a way that I couldn't even login using my password so had to restart with the power button, the hard disk and processor usage when the system was idle would suddenly jump to 90%+ for extended periods of time (especially problematic if on battery), WiDi dropped dead and several other 'improvements'.

After restarting the laptop for a gazillion times (which took 10 to 15 minutes each), I managed to update all the drivers but sadly WiDi and the fingerprint reader were still not working and the disk and processor usage would still jump to around 90%+ if the system was left idle for around a minute so I've had to switch off any form of background maintenance tasks the OS might perform.

I must admin though, despite thousands of posts in forums, HP and MS support staff are still extremely polite and paste the same solution in response to pretty much every problem: "run teh virus scanner and if there are any viruses, remove them", if no viruses are found and the person seeking support is persistent enough: "Update teh drivers", updated drivers: "... ... ... [crickets]", so much better than the OPs experience

Errrmmm I think that's where the problem began, everything after this point is irrelevant as the local population made it abundantly clear that they did not want an outside group settling in their land but the said foreign group decided to settle there anyway...

In more recent history (1997 or 1998 I believe), the Hazara genocide in Mazar Sharif, Afghanistan by the Taliban was amongst the worst genocides post the Holocaust. If hundreds of thousands Hazara survivors from all over Afghanistan decided to pack their bags, get on boats and attempt to settle in say, Australia or America, what exactly would the reaction of the local populations be? I highly doubt the said local populations would welcome these 'invaders' with open arms and garlands just because they were kinda being exterminated in their own lands...Also, bear in mind that in this particular case, the Americans were mostly responsible for creating the Taliban and arming and training them with the aid of Pakistan. The goal (which was accomplished) was to bring the U.S.S.R. to her knees whereas the Palestines had absolutely no part to play in the creation of the Nazi party.

Throughout history conservatives have opposed any changes to the social, political and economic systems that were prevalent in their time, if it was good enough for their fathers and their forefathers, it had to be good for them.

Most conservatives either think that they're doing some divine bidding by holding on to the values that their forebearers have left them or they are trying to (consciously or sub-consiously) protect some social, political or economic construct that is beneficial to them.
