3D printers a danger to civilization? At one time the same sorts of worrywarts said that the printing press was a danger to civilization. Many today say the internet is a danger to civilization. Please do not let these nattering nabobs win. We want and need the ability to create objects from designs to be free and open. Trying to limit it is like trying to limit a compiler to only compile programs you like. It is counter-progress nonsense.

That I can print or mill a gun, hatchet, tomahawk or whatever does not in the least mean I am going to be murdering people. The stats on liberalized gun ownership show that each time violent crime drops.

I wonder if you've read a certain novella by Spencer Johnson about two mice and two Lilliputians. It's called Who Moved My Cheese? , and if you don't care to read the whole thing, you can watch the short film adaptation or just read its storytelling patterns.

Change it to "I'm more active on SoylentNews than here." And start submitting some good stories, especially from Ars Technica or Phoronix or other sites that have developed a reputation as "future Slashdot".

By "reset" do you mean in the sense of pressing the Reset button on a game console? Because if so, turning the device all the way off to eject the SIM is like that. Or do you mean a different kind of reset?

I'm probably older and definitely crankier. I hate change, too, but will come to accept the change if it's an improvement. But the changes on /. in the last few years have not been improvements. They seem geared towards nothing more than watering down /.

Well, that sounds nice, but GameStops are tiny stores packed with, um, games. There's no way they could carry more than a very tiny amount of ThinkGeek merchandise. I like your idea too, because I've bought lots of stuff from ThinkGeek for myself and my kids, but I just can't imagine there being much more than in-store pickup for ThinkGeek orders.

That's true if most of your costs are fixed infrastructure costs. But the big TV networks charge a royalty per user.
