For me, this is reminiscent of those horror movies where the victim is trapped in a basement where the only light is through a very dirty window. The room is very dirty and dusty which gives the sunbeam glow. Further to the feeling of being trapped, the blue light gives it a very cold feeling.

We have Linux with its cute penguins, Apple with it's big cats and now beautiful sceneries, and Microsoft with its "You'll be trapped forever in this hell hole" wallpapers.

“Hi Barbara – John sent through a link to the P4 agreement. I have taken a quick look at the rules of origin. Someone owes USTR a royalty payment – these are our rules. They will need some tweaking but will likely not need major surgery. This is a very pleasant surprise. I will study more closely over the weekend.”

The new testing methods have shown once again that global warming is in fact real and that the earth is actually warming at a rate of 0.1 degrees. Future measurements will have the accuracy increment to be indexed to CPI to offset increases in inaccuracies of our tests due to degradation of our testing equipment due to the effects of global warming."

Submission + - Global warming pause no longer valid - US Scientiests (bbc.com) 1

Taco Cowboy writes:

The whole Global Warming debate is as confusing as ever

Researchers from the US National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) say that there was no 'pause' in Global Warming

Dr Thomas Karl of NOAA point out that the warming rate over the past 15 years is "virtually identical" to the last century and updated observations show temperatures did not plateau

The idea of a global warming "hiatus" arose from questions over why the trend of warming temperatures appeared to be stalling recently compared to the later part of the 20th Century

The new analysis corrects for ocean observations made using different methods as well as including new data on surface temperatures

However Dr Peter Stott of the Met Office Hadley Centre said the results "still show the warming trend over the past 15 years has been slower than previous 15 year periods" and "global temperatures have not increased smoothly"

"This means natural variability in the climate system or other external factors has still had an influence and it's important we continue research to fully understand all the processes at work," he said

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), global average temperatures have increased by around 0.05C per decade in the period between 1998 and 2012

http://www.climatechange2013.o...

This compares with an average of 0.12 per decade between 1951 and 2012

On the other hand, the new analysis suggests a figure of 0.116 per decade for 2000-2014, compared with 0.113 for 1950-1999

SourceForge, the code repository site owned by Slashdot Media, has apparently seized control of the account hosting GIMP for Windows on the service, according to e-mails and discussions amongst members of the GIMP community—locking out GIMP's lead Windows developer. A lot of today's scientific research is run not for the pursuit of knowledge but for profit. Behind the scientists are big corporations or governments pushing an agenda. It is quite often that these agendas require data manipulation to fit the model that best suits the interest of the entity funding the research. Science will forever be for the money and will forever be corrupted. RIP true scientific analysis.

Similarities in names are a judgement call. You believed that the names were sufficiently different, google's lawyers did not - and to be honest as soon as I read neuoogle I related that to google, so IMO they are sufficiently similar for an individual with no previous experience with your app to associate the two. Also, as you were going for trade mark of your name, you would (or should) be aware that trade marks can be lost if not defended. The google lawyers are just defending the google trade mark against attempts to trade mark words (or whatever) that are sufficiently similar to theirs that a regular person may believe that your app is being represented by google (or whatever).

The fact that you chose a name that differed from google in only the prefixed letters, you almost invited the lawyers to your door. I will assume that you chose the name as you wanted your app associated with the google term which could be considered synonymous with "searching the internet". If the google lawyers didn't protect google's trade mark, it would soon fall into the realm of kleenex, or cling wrap; Once trade marked names that were not defended.

Perhaps in the future you would find a name that is far enough removed from the trade mark of giant companies to ensure the giant companies don't start exercising their legal right in protecting their trade marks.

I will be marked down as flame bait (if they still do that here) but why is it that sexism towards men is ok in today's society? For example if this was an app targeted at rating women based on criteria that men find interesting (for want of a better word) it would be removed from the app store before it could even be downloaded. In days gone by there were men only clubs which were shut down due to sexual discrimination, today there are women only clubs and they are applauded.

I'm sure there are more boys burning ants with a magnifying glass then there are girls, should we now force girls into burning ants with a magnifying glass just to even up the numbers?

Has equality really just become evening out the numbers with disregard to what women actually want to do with their lives? Let's just hope there are no women who actually want to become housewives. Fuck that! You need to be an engineer and work in a shit job for 8+ hours a day then go home and work for another 6+ hours. Why? Because of fucking gender equality where you are no longer allowed to do what you want.
