Submission + - Did Dvorak finally get something right?

NotQuiteReal writes: I know the Slashdot crowd usually complains about John C. Dvorak columns... sure the guy needs to carp about something, let the guy make a living, sheesh.

But one of his latest columns seems to be right on. He is bitching about Microsoft Windows and is right on target. No fluff here. Even a Slashdotter can agree with Dvorak for once, right? He summarized the seemingly random, Windows issues when it comes to using the UI for simple things like "copying folders"! What a concept — have the UI ask you questions up front, rather than an hour from now! Who hasn't had this problem with Windows. [Personally I have been trained to use Cygwin for certain tasks. cough, cough.]

If you use Windows, for whatever reason, don't you think this whole column has nailed a lot of your complaints about the Window UI?

Submission + - Adding "noise" to your search history

NotQuiteReal writes: I saw a story that the AP is reporting about TrackMeNot, which sounds like a FireFox plug-in. From the article:

"TrackMeNot periodically sends fake, innocuous queries to search engines, making it harder for someone to glean your actual search habits by reviewing the companies' logs that contain your queries"

Does that seem like a good idea? Would you run such a thing. If you had some choice words in your random search list, could you not garner more attention, rather than less?

Is this just another way to waste bandwidth?
