You forgot time of day and type of riders. Taxi drivers often have to deal with drunks at 2 am. I think that increases risk a bit.

Citizens policed themselves which often resulted in 'certain types' of people being invited to neck tie parties.
The Republicans are already working on that.
"In that respect, sheer size begets evil deeds for some reason."
I have a corporation and so before creating it I studied some aspects of the corporate structure before creating it. That and observation has brought me to the conclusion that there are two factors, at least in the US, which turn corporations into sociopaths:
1) The only real mandate they have is to funnel money to the stockholders, and in this day in age the most powerful stock holders are the CEOs and BODs
2) Avoidance of responsibility is enshrined in the corporate charter model law. Showing that the CEO and BOD are responsible for corporate dysfunction, which often leads to people dying, is nigh on impossible. Esp. when corporate assets can be used to defend the CEO and BOD.
Until that is fixed corporate evil is almost a given.
But it is still wrong.
How about if you must take those classes to graduate and so must have contact with the instructor and deal with unwanted advances? Any instructor that does that is wrong.
I would say Dixiecrats, who have long since fled to the Republican Party. The TEA party are their intellectual heirs, IMO.
They have lynched, raped, blown up churches, intimidated etc. Why are they not considered a terrorist organization?
I would call it terrorism.
I dispose of companies when their services are no longer needed. I show the as much loyalty as they show me. Isn't that what Economists say I should be doing? Looking out for my best interest and to heck with everyone else? If every one does this and follows thr princople of "Greed is Good" then the new Garden of Eden will sprout up spontaneously.
You obviously don't work on Wall Street.
He had a miniature Babbage engine powered by an alcohol fueled Stirling engine installed in his abdomen to help him analyze economic data. The cover story was that he was a fat alcoholic.
"We've mostly explored one"
Not even close to 'mostly'. The land areas often have areas very little understood, we can't find a crashed airliner in the ocean, we know very little of the crust though some discoveries of extremophiles underground hint at some weird biology and chemistry, and can't even get sol microbes into the lab without killling them. Before we try to understand other planets it might be a good idea to understand Earth first.
You have to start somewhere.
There is no guarantee of that. Deregulation created the nightmare of air travel we have today. Deregulation caused the market crash of 2007 and the ensuing depression. In fact lack of regulation caused every crash and depression in the 1800s.
And it should be the law: If you use the word `paradigm' without knowing what the dictionary says it means, you go to jail. No exceptions. -- David Jones
