As long as there is money to be made by ripping people off over the internet there will be people somewhere in the world willing to spend their time (and money) trying.
No need to type that "over the internet" part.
These "race cars" can't go the distance so they have to create special tracks to use them on instead of running them on known tracks.
Is that so odd? Many many sporting activities have facilities designed especially for them.

I do the same. At Costco I've agreed to it in becoming a member. Anywhere else I just keep walking and say "I didn't steal anything".
