Comment Useless comparison (Score 4, Insightful) 398

I drink.. I used to smoke, and I used to smoke marijuana, but I wont bore you with anecdotal personal stories. TFA mainly looks at the ratio of LD50 compared to the effective dose. For alcohol, the LD50 is close to the dose many consume. Closer than the LD50 of THC is to the used dosage. By that measure, LSD is safer than asprin because the ration there is so far apart.

Yes alcohol has long term health effects, so does any other substance. Eating has long term health effects. The real measurements are immediate risk, long term risk, and gain from consumption.

This addresses none of those in a useful fashion.

I despise patent trolls, but reading your linked article, I see where the patent issues here were really only detrimental until the start of WW1. 1906 to 1917 is not "nearly half a century."

Please, when framing arguments against patents or climate deniers, or anything else that is important to you, do not exaggerate or use such hyperbole. It lessens the impact of your argument, however true, significantly.

You sound like a typical brainwashed american. If you bail on the sex offender registry, you will be hunted down. If you 'assume' a new name, you must bail on it, if not you would have to maintain two addresses, as your main address would still be in the registry and open to a simple sex offender search in the state, not even a BG check which would catch it also.

It is not as easy as you seem to think. Besides, whose name are you going to assume? How are you going to get birth cert and SS card and other proof of residency requirements that are needed for any job? All that can be done, but it not a 'simple' thing and one misstep and yo are back in prison for multiple charges.

You do not need prison tats for that. A background check will do sufficiently. That said, I m an ex felon, with some tats from before and during my time. I have a fair job at a small local IT company, and am building my own business. However, it has and continues to be a very hard struggle, and I can see why many give up and go sling dope or rob again.

BS Comcast is not happy about this. They have the cash and power to out compete any last mile startup on municipal network in that five years. this gives the public the feeling that something is being done about these ISPs, while giving them more of a stranglehold on the market in a short time. They may act affronted all they like but in reality, behind the mask they are rejoicing because they know what it would mean for them. Whoever architected this, be it lawmakers or some behind the scenes lobbyist or industryman, they are very smart. Well played there bro. I hope you karma is to be ass-fucked my syphilis ridden camels from here to eternity.

If you allow user override, then it is a bit that can be flipped by someone or a process other than the user. And, users with knowledge can still choose. Use a nightly or other than stable release.

Rig a system, perhaps a fairly short lanyard on your wifes non-dominant wrist that pulls a pin switch that is nearly certain to get pulled during a seizing event. Sure it is annoying, and prone to false positives, but she can cancel the false positives if she is okay.

First there is a simple solution.. don't allow the teams to provide balls. Make it the domain of the refereeing staff.
Second, making jock vs geek jokes in TFA or TFS is insulting. Bullying is real and has very real consequences. I was subjected to the joked about circumstance and worse. I am no social justice warrior, but making light of a real and painful thing - one that still occurs in various forms today - only enables those that bully more easily abuse.
Oh, and of you think that it is a simple schoolhouse occurrence that we grow out of, I beg to differ. I took my pain out on those weaker than I, as do others, and bullying mentalities continue into adulthood, all you have to do is look at domestic abuse cases, or the modern police force for plenty of examples.
