There is a simple way to prevent unions from gaining a foothold in your company: stop treating your employees like crap. Stop implementing life-sapping schedules that prevent workers from having meaningful relationships, give them solid healthcare that they don't want to trade away, give them a paycheck that allows them to live within a decent distance of their work, and don't treat them like meatbags whose sole purpose is to make you more money. If they still want to unionize after that? Fine, throw 'em to the wolves. But quite frankly, reading through the description of what the bus drivers get, the company had this coming.

That said, fuck the unions as well. No, a bus driver isn't the same thing as a programmer. Stop pandering to your audience and do something useful instead.

It took me about 14 seconds to find one for $20 on Amazon. IDE or SATA hard drive, USB2 interface. Took me longer to type that than to find the enclosure. Could probably find one even cheaper if I took the time.

Then they can do what some electric companies do. Offer a discount to consumers with a router that throttles the connection during peak demand and let them suck up all the data they want when consumption is low. I'm pretty sure that's a broad-stroke version of the model DirecWay currently uses for their satellite internet service. The FAP throttles you during the day and you get a window of a few hours in the early morning when the shackles are lifted and you can download without penalty.

I don't understand why that's so evil. That's how electric/water/gas works and the world hasn't stopped spinning. You pay a fixed amount for the capacity of your connection and a per-unit charge for what you consume. While I certainly prefer the flat rate unlimited pricing model, I can see why metered service would make more sense.

My RV's storage array was 32tb. Went over 11,000 miles without a hitch. (Not powered up while I was driving, of course.) As for a DC-DC converter, there are universal 12v DC laptop power supplies with a bundle of tips. There's probably one that will match this device.

The rpi-2 is also under $50 delivered with a case. Even more not the same target market. That's my "I'll buy one just to play with it for a few days" threshold. I installed OpenELEC and it seems to do fine with my 1080 material. Tho I still find it quicker to just play content off my laptop. Only real gripe I have so far is the move to MicroSD. Full size SD cards are cheaper and there was plenty of room on the old board. I don't see the advantage of moving to the smaller, more expensive format. Especially when the big selling point is the low cost of the board.

Just put the fabrication equipment in a commercial building and ship the finished products. Next day delivery infrastructure is already in place. Why does it need to be fabricated in my driveway? If there turns out to be a demand for same-day delivery, set up regional production facilities and deliver the product via courier. Amazon, feel free to PayPal me a huge consulting fee.

That's not the only model for agents and managers. I have a friend who works on the production side of TV and movies. For a while, he hit the bricks between every project to line up future work. Then he was making enough to afford to pay someone 10% to do that for him so all he had to do was sign a contract and show up at the next gig. Then he got popular enough that the offers were coming in without the agent's effort so now he lines up his own work again but doesn't have to pound the pavement to get offers. Some day, he may be popular enough that he needs an agent again to "filter out the crap".

...ISPs do not care about file sharing much. People usually set a reasonable rate and download sporadically and through all times of the day. Most of these people don't want the data NOW RIGHT NOW and they aren't expecting live 4K video with zero stutter. Streaming content is a *BITCH* for ISPs because it's all lumped together at the same time of day - evening entertainment - and the customers want flawless video streaming at full rate in the highest resolutions possible. To multiple devices in the home, at the same time. And they do their best to convince the ISPs that they should support the home network and smart televisions, too (ISPs are having none of it, and for good reason).

They want it unlimited, as well. Free, if they could.

This really is a red herring. Streaming is what makes the Internet creak under the strain. It's essentially the worst possible, most expensive, most prone to issues way to distribute video to a wide market. Satellite broadcast is positively cheap, compared.
